Cold weather shipping is quite tricky at time, don't beat yourself up bro.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Mike. After literally hundreds of shipments we've had two geckos DOA, one five years ago and one this year where evidently UPS just left the box outside in the sun with no notification and the icepack wasn't enough.
One thing to please keep in mind, we've had some shipments get very cold, the worst case was five geckos lost for four days. That shipment went out when temps were mid-40s for two days, then dropped into the teens. We've never lost a gecko to cold.

I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. Most things in life are lessons to be learned you have learned and will move on with more knowledge for the future we to try to keep a small colony and to get attached to alot if not all of our hatchlings, so we take it hard when are babies are in the mail and are so very relieved when we get the word they made it safe. good luck to you and yours in the future.

I'm so sorry to hear that... My geckos are somewhat like my children too, I'd feel horrible if I were to lose any of them.

In my (little) experience, they endure the cold way better than the heat... Some of my geckos were held at the airport's warehouse, with no heating at all (it would be around 65ºF, I guess), during a whole week...(That must have been the worse week in my life, I couldn't stop thinking about the poor things the whole time :(). And all of them survived! If in doubt,I would go for less heat, not more.

By the way, congrats on that new little Bell! :)

If it gets too cold the geckos body will slow down and compensate for the lack of heat. Sucks that this happened, always sad to hear about shipping tragedy's. FedEX of UPS needs to make a more animal friendly shipping method. lol.

Dude, so sorry to hear of the bad experience.:( As Paul stated, just ask, when in doubt. Ask any one of us, that have been doing this for awhile! Most of us, I`m sure, will have no problem helping you out.

It is not really very cold out right now, and you are almost always much better off if the geckos get too cold, as opposed to too warm. They are perfectly fine at temps around 50dg, as it can surely get that cold at night where they are from.

In the wild, I`m not sure they would ever experience the high temps we keep them at, because they would be asleep during the heat of the day, and out at night when it is much colder. They are really very tough critters, and do not need all the "babying" that we tend to give them. Just some things I try to keep in mind.

I am very sorry to hear about the babies. That is such a tragedy. It is so hard to loose one. I haven't tried to ship yet for this reason. I worry about everything that can go wrong. Don't be too hard on yourself. Best wishes.

Mike, I am so sorry that this happened. I would like to tell you not to beat yourself up too much, but I know those of us that care so deeply for our pets tend to no matter how they are lost. We move forward, learning from these experiences and applying that knowledge to better care for those in the future. Life has it's ups and downs, and the ups are surely worth the downs. ;)

Keep your chin up, Mike. We all know how much you love and care for your babies. (HUGS) Congrats on that new baby. :D I can't wait to see it! I never tire of seeing your beautiful Bells!

That really sucks. i wish it hadn't happened but it was just one of those things that you can't do anything but just see it as a learning experience. Don't bet yourself up about it too much because you have all those other beautiful geckos to take care of..

Sorry you guys (Mike and Chris) had to go through this. I'm going to put this in the shipping section so it can help other people who are looking for answers about how to ship.
