A TANGELO.....REDO!

great thread topic Eric... I've been thinking about the same thing myself.

I wont go too far into my opinion on the matter (maybe we should cover it as a topic on Late Night Leos?) ... but I do think that Ryan has a very valid point in saying -

[. . .] it appears that while making Sunglows he came up with a certain pattern that appeared which gave it the lighter markings on it. Then when bred back to each other the orange coloration appeared to have gotten better.

(is this not almost exactly the definition of line breeding? We can all develop our own specific 'lines' if we work towards it long enough. - Mad props to Paul Allen's INSANE Tangerine Tremper!!)

I think this is exactly what happened... no 'color mutation' or anything fancy like that (although thats a GREAT marketing term... nice try) ... just a line bred variation of the Tremper Albino. Simple as that.

ok, I'm off my soap box now... ;)

Eric and Marcia, if those animals were produced in the great state of texas.. they would be TANGELO in my opinion. But they weren't, so the name really wouldn't fit.

My reasoning is this....

If I made a animal that looked like a Tangerine Tornado or a R2 bold stripe with none of those animals in the original mix, it wouldn't be kosher to take that breeder's "trade name" . not that anyone is or would in this case.

I hear what you are saying here Paul, and I agree... but I don't think Eric is planning on calling the animals he produced 'Tangelos' - he is simply trying to understand the genetics involved with them.

Sorry, I forgot to say..

Eric, those are awesome animals and beautiful nomatter what state they are in :main_thumbsup:

Marcia, nobody needs to tell you that's an awesome hybino, but I just did ;)

Brittney, that reply in no way was implying Eric thought he had "tangelos" . I think only RT can tell you that, and it might be a bit clouded if he does :main_laugh:

Thanks everyone! I am still really curious of the deep genetic traits of this so called Tangelos. I guess I need to get some Texas Tangelos and do some testing.:book:

Eric, you have something better.. oregonian trempers with the awesome high white areas in them!!!!

I would suspect that your cross may be the foundation for the so called tangelos from your findings this season. With refinig, maybe you can make the super oregonian tremper :main_laugh:

Think of a catchier name than oregonian tremper and charge a few bucks more for the catchy name(like mercedes does on oil filters at the dealer)
