Jake just took in this little guy. He was severely neglected and is emaciated. :(
I have never dealt with a Leo before.

What do I do???

He's missing a few front toes. We got him to eat a few freeze dried mealies.

I have only got leopards to eat live wiggling bugs. Mealworms, crickets, waxworms ect..........
The leo doesn't look to bad. Provide it with belly heat, a humidity hide and food and that will get the little leopard going. Also warm water soaks 1-2 a day for 20-30 minutes at about 85 degrees.

Where was he abandoned to? Poor little guy. Glad to know he now has a person to take care of him. :)

What do you have in his setup? Do you have a pic as well?

So with the twice a week, is that dusting his food? With both types at the same time? Or once with the Rep Cal calcium and then once with the Herptivite? And the calcium at all times, is that something different? Or is that the Rep Cal calcium?

His cage is a MESS! The previous owners had him in sand and I don't think its been changed in a year. I'm cleaning it out really well and putting him on paper towel.

He is SO affectionate! Every time he sees a human he crawls up the side of his tank and waits to be picked up. He's such a doll!

I mix both the calcium with d3 and the Herptivite together and dust the food with it. The calcium stays in a dish 24/7. I am bouncing from feeding leopards and cleaning water turtle tank so sorry with the gaps

Based on what I have been reading in the supplementation section of the forums here (it might be useful for you to read some of it) and what I've been doing myself, there seem to be at least 2 choices of how to supplement leos:

a. (this is what I'm doing now) leave a dish of calcium without D3 in the cage. Dust feeders at least once weekly with rep-cal with D3 and with herptivite (I actually dust alternately at every feeding since I only feed every other day)

b. Don't leave calcium in the tank. Dust every feeding with a 1:1 mixture of the 2 supplements listed above OR with Repashy's calcium plus or T Rex leopard gecko dust. I'm considering switching to this one.

I also recommend you feed it every day so it can put on weight until it doesn't seem to want to eat that often. Good luck with it.

Thank you for taking and caring for this lovely creature!!! At this point, just getting him to eat is a great improvement! Make sure he has Calcium w/D3 at all times, and vitamin supplement a minimum of weekly.

Keep us posted on his progress...

Thank you all so much for the advice.
I picked him up some waxies (which are by far, MUCH grosser than mealies, IMO *squirm* )
The only suppliment I could find on short notice is Reptivite. Is that alright for now?

I have seen some leo owners give their geckos baby food. Can I try that with him? And what kind would you recommend? I have some chicken and veggie dinner for Dharma (our beardie). Would that work? Or should I get him fruit?

Okay. I'll be sure to stick with the bugs.
And you're right. I went back and it was other types of geckos. :main_rolleyes:

Thanks for all your help.

So far so good! He came out tonight and ate 3 waxies and a few mealies that we dusted down. He drank some water and cruised for a while, then went back to bed. He got a couple minutes of lovins, but didn't want to stress him too much tonight. He has no intereset in crickets right now, but I think that may be due to his strength being down. Just too much energy to chase down.
