ok this is driving me crazy! not sure how many people are actually working on this, but it seems like the majority of nagativity is coming from people that arent even working on the project. yes there have been some problems with this cross but that doesnt mean its impossible! craig has double hets, last yr justin from canada posted pics on here of double hets and the parrents. pat is absolutely right if you breed a het patty to an amel only some of the babies would be double hets, why would the ones that arent het patty not hatch. I admit there is something strange going on here but to say it wont work is just crazy! I for one am trying to stay possitive about this!

just out of curiosity, how many of you that are posting about this are actually working on this project?????

I'm sorry if I came across as negative towards the project; I think people are just sharing their experiences and concerns of this project. I for one would be ECSTATIC to see a patternless amel fatty; what an amazing animal that would be!! It's just disappointing to hear that so many people are having such a rough time of it, ya know? Does that mean I think that it's impossible? Not at all. If you read my previous posts, I'm just asking questions as to why folks think this may be the case (no viable offspring thus far.)

I'm glad to hear Craig (nice to see you on here!! :) ) is having different results than other breeders I know. That gives me hope for the future of this project. :) Any others with similar results to Craig?

debbie, by no means was my rant dirrected toward you. Ive been waiting for over a year watching my patternless and 07 tangs grow so I can work on this project and it s frustrating to hear so many negative thoughts from people that arent even working with fattails let alone working on this project. Im glad craig could come on here and set the record straight with his findings.

ps Craig that axanthic is sick:main_thumbsup::main_thumbsup:

Craig, might I ask where your original amel animals originated from? Maybe that is the key to your success?

Would you also mind commenting on where you patternless stocks came from?

New Albino Strain...

Thanks to everyone that commented. We are very excited about a few of the new projects we are working on. Our original patternless stock came from the wild. We have animals from Togo, Ghana and Benin but now have F2 and F3 captive stock in our colony. With respect to our amel's we have a fairly diverse group of these (tangerines, yellows and peach) but I have no reason to believe that they are unrelated to any of the other animals currently in captivity.

However, we do have a completely unrelated wild-caught bloodline of albino that came direct from Africa. We got our original male a few years back and have been working on the project behind the scenes. This albino line is completely new and different to any others in captivity and we have coined it the Caramel Albino. In fact, it is a proven new strain of albino. This was confirmed when we crossed our normal amel line into our new caramel albino line and the results were normal looking offspring, which are double het (het normal amel and het caramel albino). In other words the two strains are not compatible making them different. These were the results we were hoping for. We have not crossed these into the patternless yet but will do so this breeding season. We were holding off on disclosing this project because we wanted to be certain on the genetic results, which are now proven and confirmed.

I can't tell you how excited we are about this new albino strain for obvious reasons. This new morph is not only beautiful and extreme the adults do not loose their color as they mature and go through breeding like the normal amel line. In fact they get better and better looking as they mature. We are seeing animals develop almost a reddish hue in their orange. There is so much to be done with these. Just imagine how these are going to evolve through selective breeding as well as crossing into other morphs. If I've said it once I've said it a hundred times, the sky is the limit for the Fattie. We’ve got some really exciting times ahead to share with each other.

I have included some photos for you to check out. As they mature the taupe colored area starts to turn more of a brown color and that’s why we coined it the Caramel Albino. In the morph line up we have pictured a mature proven female on the far right and you can see how her colored is more developed (brown) than the sub-adult pictured by itself and with a normal tangerine amel. Thanks again and all the best to everyone.
