A few growers in Canada and the western part of the US are having some production problems.

where did you find this info? :O

From a Breeder/ Hatchery.

I was not wanting to cause a panic. Only inform what I have been told from reliable sources.

I have found a so called solution.

The issue seems to be from a couple or few Breeders/ Hatchery that are having problems. These Breeders sell Wholesale and some retail. Some Breeders sell Wholesale ( distributor) to other businesses and or Gecko/ Reptile Breeders and retail outlets.

For now it seems if you want to be safe and know all is ok. Call or contact a Breeder/ Hatchery directly and see if they are having any problems.

ok yeah i know there are only a few large breeders of crickets and most of the crickets from other companies come from these farms.. they drop ship em for the bug company you are buying from.

We order our crickets from Top Hat and they are just fine. I'll head up to the Cleveland show on sunday and talk with Jeff and see if he's had any issues from Top Hat since they use 40x the amount of crickets that I do.

My advice to anyone who has the space is to breed your own feeders...

It kinda stinks that we really have no idea how these feeder farms are feeding and raising the feeders...

That is the problem with crickets, they take up so much space to culture. Mealworms, roaches, etc are easy enough, but to culture crickets I would have to give up at least one 4' section of tank space if not more. :main_no: Not to mention the time, maintenance, and stink involved...

I ordered 500 crickets from Komodo Reptiles and they died within a few days. I got a shipment from Flukers a couple weeks ago and they seem lively and healthy.

Like I said..... I did not want to cause a panic. This is a good reason to be on the forum. To give a heads up when we hear things that could affect us or our animals.

I ordered some crickets and meal worms today and will watch and feed my 2 and see what happens.

ive heard that crickets can carry worms, all it takes is one cricket with worms to infect the entire colony.
as to it being true or not i dont know.

I think the worms affect the crickets and not the Gecko? Would like to know for sure though. Thats why it would be good to know what your feeders can pass to ours.

Well if you are talking about the "wooly worm," they can be terrible for a cricket farm, but most of us get them in every box :main_huh:...They basically eat the crickets. I have had many geckos eat them with ZERO problems, they seem to enjoy eating them. But yes crickets may carry pin worms. This is why it is normal for geckos to have pin worms, but not an infestation either. (this is what i have heard, someone correct me if i m wrong)
