I'm not sure if there has been another poll on this. If there is, I didn't find it.

I'm just curious if people here are breeders, sellers, plan to breed, or just have them for pets.

I just have one little guy right now, but I think that I would like to breed in the future when I have more space.

Well, I chose:
"I breed them to sell them (but it's still fun!)

My only problem with that answer is that I am definitely not going to breed to make a huge profit. My reason for beginning to breed this next season is my love for these geckos. They amaze me in every way, and I'll be proud to be producing healthy, beautiful geckos (of course that is dependent upon my breeders!).

The only reason I picked that one, vs the one above it, is because I know I'll be selling them...I just do not have the room for 40-50 little baby geckos :)!!

Haha! Yeah, that's why I added the (but it's still fun!) to that option. Because I know that in order to breed these little guys, you obviously love them and they are your pets, too. But some people just have geckos that have babies, and others breed them with the intent to sell them because like you said you can't have 100 baby geckos LOL

I was very torn on what to answer....I ended up choosing "I breed for fun...". I do, however, sell some of the babies. But I don't feel that I breed 'to sell'. First and foremost I breed because I enjoy it and the genetics and because nothing tops the feeling I get every time a little miracle comes out of the egg! ;) Of course, as much as I would like to, I can't keep them all, so I do end up selling some.

I think most of us are in it for the fun whether we produce ten babies a year or a thousand... I'm on the lower end, but would upscale things a bit if I had the room/resources... I do sell the ones I don't keep, but I've never made a profit... So as far as selling, I'm all about the reaction ''customers'' have when they receive my geckos opposed to how much I sell a gecko for... Although I have much more time than money in my collection and if it were the opposite I might not have the same opinion...

We might eventually once we gain a bit more knowledge about it...but we're not currently....I haven't tried yet.

I need to sell or I won't have any room in my house. Selling is not the primary reason for my breeding. I love bringing new and interestingly colored life into the house.

I think in a couple years when I try my hand at breeding, that will be why I do it, too. But you can't keep all the babies, there's just too many lol.

Watching them hatch is magic.

I'd have to say that NOTHING tops someone walking up to your table at an expo and being wowed with your babies! I love to watch that, I like to see kids getting their 1st herp, it's just great.

Then their is the smug ugly side that knows that you held the best back!!!!!! I can here the little devil on my shoulder say "If you think these look good......"

i put "i keep them just as pets". im a college student so my funds and time are primarily devoted to that. i plan on breeding in the future, but it would still be as a hobby. i would possibly sell them to first time owners and such, just looking for pets, no special morphs or anyhing...

Right now, just pets. But I am very interested in breeding. I'd love to try breeding my girl. Although, I am a bit afraid of it. I may not. I'd like to buy another female to try it first, I hope that doesn't sound horrible.

I don't breed for the money I breed because I love reptiles and like to give my freinds nice geckos at a reasonable price and I don't breed a lot the market is already flooded with geckos. I have 2 breeding pairs and I only put them together once or twise a season and get maybe 6-8 cluches and I'm happy with that I'll keep 2-4 and give some to my freinds and the same thing with them. It's a good system.

I have no desire to breed. I got my guys as pets. I am perfectly happy just watching them play on the walls of their viv. I may, in the future, breed to replace these when they die, but that is several years away.

I breed because I love these little guys.....I sell some because my husband would go absolutely bolistic if I kept every single baby I hatched. Thats also why I breed on a small scale.
