... so you were moving, the gecko was in the back with other stuff, and when you had arrived at your destination he had shed his entire leg? no blood, just a leg and a nub... weird, some weird flesh eating virus maybe?... strange... well hope everything works out ok ...

Um...

Why wouldnt precautions be taken to prevent injury to the gecko?

I still don't understand what happened or the extent of the injury. Is he just missing the toes from shedding or the whole leg?

I don't believe this at all..

Something screams fishy on this one def after he stopped responding after you all asked for pics.

I've never heard of 'shedding his leg off' with no blood. Just pull the shed off and oops a nub!

I dont get it.

I don't either...believe it or understand it. What's the most confusing is, if it isn't true--what could he have gained by making it up?

I'm not making it up. I called the vet and he said the legs wont grow back..I don't know if it was the trip, or what happen. All I know is when I got back from the trip, the gecko looked dead, so I got him in the house and noticed one leg half missing and the other leg not moving. He has been in his shed box for days also..I also noticed black spots under his chin and bottom area? What is that?
I don't have pictures right now i just moved back with my parents..I am lucky I can use my dads computer at this point..Just cause i don't have pictures does not make this untrue. I don't have a camera, or a cell phone right now.
And it's not my PC. When I get paid in the next few weeks I am going to the vet instead of calling..The gecko may need to be put to sleep. I don't know what the vet will suggest once I go in..I only called and talked to vet on the phone. The gecko could of been sick before the trip..I don't know but was not coming out of his shed box, this was before the move..So i might of not noticed it. Or it could of been the move, again I am not sure but once I got back after the the gecko was not moving..After I got the shed off he started to move, though the legs will never work, he has 2 front legs that do move..I am talking about the back legs, one does not move, the other back leg, some of its missing.

It's not that we don't believe you, we're just trying to understand how this could have possibly happened. Did you move him in his tank? Could something have slid and cut his leg off? Did you find the missing part of the leg? We feel like there are a lot of missing pieces here.

Yes the gecko was in his tank, so was the other gecko..I have a smaller tank fo ninja and a huge tank for the orange gecko. And yes all the stuff like logs and shed boxes were in the tank..When my dad called me over to see this in the moving truk I seen the orange gecko on his side, looked dead smashed up against the log..Though my dad said the gecko was moving weird before the trip..I did not notice but my dad did..Just saying before the trip the gecko might if been that way, or something could of fallen on it to..I don't know what happened for sure. I am confused myself..There was no blood, no..it did smell though, when I pulled the skin off. Are those black spots uclers? if so the vet said on the phone that is not good if they have ucler.

The missing part of the leg I thought was a worm or whatever is was because it was on the gecko's belly. I did not notice right away that it was his leg. Now when I look back it might of been his leg..
His legs have always been very tiny and yes I feed them all the time. Not that they ever eat much.
My mom thought it was a worm to, so I was not the only one who thought this.

I might be wrong on this one, but I think ulcers really only happen in the stomach. The black spots could be some sort of infection brought on by the loss of limb, maybe? Really only a vet could tell you

Still with the leg if it was his leg, not sure if it was the vet on the phone said he would never have his leg, and never be able to use the leg that did not move as well.

No, geckos can't regenerate limbs like they can their tails. If he lost a part of his leg, it's gone. And if nerve damage was done to the other..or even spinal damage...the use of the back leg is gone.

i'm still dumbfounded by this story. Not saying I don't believe you but its just odd!

How long was your gecko in his humid hide before you moved? Did you check on him to see if he was even ok after a few days? If I havn't seen my gecko for two days or more I go and check her over to make sure she's ok. Because if he had his legs before the move and you placed the entire tank with all the decorations & gecko then went and placed it in the back of a moving trunk, mini van ( i dunno what you used) I see that there is a BIG possibility that something fell on top of him but I dunno.

Next time you move and have any reptiles or small animals.. I suggest you get a small container/carrier/box that is big enough for your gecko. Place it inside make sure its dark and carry with it on your lap or in a very secure place that way you know the gecko is safe.

I called and the vet said before I brought the gecko in

When I get paid in the next few weeks I am going to the vet instead of calling.

I would say I'm sorry but I'm not. This story makes absolutely no sense. A gecko that mysteriously loses it's leg and there's no blood to found. Call a friend and have them bring a camera over or there camera phone. Until you can give proof with pictures you're going to have a hard time convincing people of what happened.

It doesn't add up and makes no sense.

It sounds like the gecko was not terribly secured when moved. How far of a move was it?

And technically, ulcers are any large irritated open sore, there is such a thing as a skin ulcer, we see them on diabetics and kidney patients all the time where I work.

You keep it clean with gauze and water (use the gauze like a washcloth, veeerrrry gently), and dab some neosporin on.

Although from the other problems described, this gecko is obviously suffering. I'm not saying he couldn't recover, but if you don't treat him soon, the outcome isn't going to get any better. His life will never be what it was before this, you may have to hand feed him.

Can you borrow some money from your folks? Making the gecko wait "a few weeks" in this condition may not be the best idea I've ever heard. They're reptiles, metabolic processes are slower (slower to get noticeably sick, slower to heal, resilient - yes), but they aren't unfeeling. Call the vet back and ask about payment arrangements, tell him you're afraid he'll die if he doesn't get seen.

It does sound like you're worried about the gecko. Get him seen!
