I saw Kelli posted her Engimas forsale on KS today and wondering how they are a dominate morph. If there is a red eye and non red eye wouldn't that mean its a co-dom with a super form?
Thanks

My understanding is that it is a dominant morph being able to reproduce itself in the first generation when crossed with a different morph. The red eyes are the result of breeding it to an albino and the albino form only expressing itself through the eyes meaning it could still have black pigment.

Excellent expanation Harold. I cannot add anything more to it really.

When I got my first Enigmas it was not known for sure how the morph was reproduced, and I guessed it to be so dom (incomplete dominant LOL). After some test breedings I have found it to be a dominant trait.

So you mean if you take a non red eye Enigma and pair it with an albino you get red eyes all the time? Well when it produces an Enigma. Have you tested this will all three strains? Have you bred Red Eye Enigma x Red Eye Enigma and gotten an albino body, not just the ocular form?

Since enigmas are dominant then those expressing the trait may be heterozygous for it. Breeding an Enigma to an albino produces Enigmas het for albino; and if the Enigma being bred is only carrying one enigma gene then you would get 50% enigmas het albino and 50% normals het albino. When those het albino enigmas are bred togeather there is a 25% chance of the albino trait being expressed along with the enigma trait.

Homozygous Enigma X Albino:
(het, but expressed since it is dominant) Enigma het Albino

(het) Enigma het albino X (het) Enigma het albino:
Enigma
Homozygous Enigma
Homozygous Albino
Het Albino
Enigmas het Albino
Homozygous Enigma het Albino
Homozygous Enigma Homozygous Albino

So Red eyed enigmas are a double homozygous morph.

I was just looking at Kellis available enigmas and wanted to cry because I can not aford one. I sware If I had a credit card with that much availble credit on it I would have one in a second! They are so beautiful and very so much in the way they look. It would be so great to be able to work with them!

I would guess upwards of maybe 20 have them? Maybe I'm being a little too ambitious with my guesstimates, but I believe that to be true.

No idea how many people have them in US (I'd guess Joshua was close) but in the UK there are only a handful of keepers with them.

I wonder if any males got out... Someone said JMG had a pair, but as far as I've heard only females have been available.

Well these are the first to be sold outside of Mark Bell correct? Does anyone known if he was selling unsexed ones? I'm sure if someone offer a good price he might have left a coule males go.

NO Enigma males have ever been sold, and yes, these are the first to be sold outside of the few that Mark sold. They are so cool! I wish I could keep all of them for myself.

Kelli, if you compere your white enigmas with blizzards or MS patternless, some of them will get greyish or dark if they do some time in the shadding box. Is it the same with enigmas? They look so very white in your photos, do they stay so allways?

That's good to know because I'd hate for the mass producers to get a hold of some and ruin the market potential for this morph like the Mack Snows.

So do we know how many people actually have Enigmas now? It's all very interesting. And a little confusing! :dizzy2:

Thats like asking do we know how many people actually have a mix of pitbull. Enigmas are fairly rare; but how many people have them and don't know it is another question. I bought a true blizzard and the guy told me it was a carrot tail.
