Any tips for dealing with them?

They usually stay in the basement. But a few have been getting into the main part of the house lately...Had one under the fridge chirping away all week. Drove me crazy.

Scared to spray with all the animals. Any suggestions?

Yeah I was going after it with a hanger and some windex at 2am the other day...Bugger would stop for a few minutes and start right up again.

Now I'm on a mission ;)

Thanks Matt and Joseph. Just looked up "sticky pads" didn't realize they made them with out poison!

Jason - I do feed mealies for most of my leos. But that's only a small part of my collection. The majority won't take worms...Though it would be nice if they did ;)

I am lucky, in AZ we have H. Turcicus all over, and they like to come into the house. So they take care of any escaped crickets eventually.

That would be nice. You guys have all sorts of cool stuff out that way! No geckos anywhere near Chicago ;)

I have heard a few people letting tokays etc. free range to get the escapees...But it gets too cold down there for that to be practical.

I would definitely suggest the sticky tape for bugs. Non-poisonous of course. We used them all the time at the pet store where I used to work and they seemed to work very well. You wouldn't believe how many crickets we caught every day. If you can prevent any more from escaping - or laying eggs somewhere, then you should see a decline in their presence for sure.

I've found glue traps fpr mice wortk really well also, It work well too catch the occasional loose gecko. you just have to keep checking the traps top make sure they aren't on it along time. Just use veggie oil and Q-tips to get them off.

I hate crickets so bad it isn't even funny! No matter what, you always get some excaping. GRRRRRRRRR

Maybe try roach traps also?

I do indeed have a few house geckos running around my reptile room. I put one of those rubber door sweeps to keep cold out on the bottom of my door and a better threshold. NOTHING can excape my reptile room with the door closed, so that solved most of my issue.

I have since gone to DUBIAS instead of crickets, but a few fatties aren't switching well.

I actually caught quite a few with duck tape and dog food last night. Hoping I can track down the sticky traps today...duck tape wasn't quite sticky enough.

I know how you feel Paul. My biggest problem is that I'm still hand misting. After feeding nights, it never fails I'll have a few spring right out the doors. I swear they can get out the tops of some of the tanks too. Builds up after a couple years. I'll definitely keep the door sweep in mind...Still need to figure out my shelving issue so I can get them all in one room again.

Been a while Steve...Hope all is well!

Crickets, ahaaaa yes.

A mixture of tobacco, and
early times bourbon in a pan.
Place in the center of a room
with the doors closed.
In the morning just pick up all
the sleeping passed out party crickets.
Take care. HJ

^ odd concoction...might have to give it a whirl for giggles :) Any story behind the mixture?

The duck tape and dog food was working great... till my pup got to the bait sometime yesterday.

On your other suggestion...don't think fishing in the house would go over too well.:p

If you use a "cricket keeper" tape the holes where you put the tube through down just make sure they can still get air from the side vents (if you use the "Cricket keeper")

My cat Raiya takes care of all the escapees. She is excellent. She couldn't catch the mouse that was in the house, but she can find all sizes of crickets.

No cats here...my dog doesn't show any interest in the crickets...just their bait ;) She really just goes down there to watch the turtle. Still haven't had a chance to pick up the "sticky traps" yet. Then I'll really have to keep an eye on her.

John - thanks for the tip...I use couple 5 and 10 gallon tanks with a tight screen..
