Exclusive Mealworm feeding

Hey Guys,

Ive decided to feed my juvy high yellow almost exclusively on mealworms ( occasionally superworms) The thing is, are there any methods that i can use to make the mealworms constantly active? My leo tends to ignore them unless they are wriggling around which is only 50% of the time. Any help would be appreciated :)

Thanks guys!

Yeah mealworms will not move much..if there not freaked out..And when there ready to turn in to pupa its hopeless. I know they make some kinda feeding bowl that shakes? i remember seeing it in my reptile store. Maybe someone on here knows what am talking about...you put the food in walk away. and there a little remote you click to turn it on. and it makes the food move.

If you put some carrot or potato in they tend to be more active.

Alternatively, I just tip the bowl so they all fall to one corner. They get freaked out and wriggle around until they're all eaten

:laugh4: Yeah, vibrating feed dish. I saw that one, too.

The vibrating food dish isn't worth the money really. If you are having that much trouble with them not moving, place a peice of carrot or lettuce in there and put the dish on the warm side of the tank. They will either eat the food or try to escape from the heat. That works for me when I pull mine out of the fridge.

I know people that have the dish and they say it sucks. First off its really noisy and second they told me that it just scares their geckos away from the food.

I bet it would. I wouldn't buy it - the only reason I could think of that you'd need something like that is if you're feeding dead crickets that they otherwise wouldn't eat.

It was a cute idea, we'll give the inventor credit for that. ;)

Yeah it's great for larger herps, beardies and the like. They aren't so skitish around noisy things that are smaller than they are so it entices them. But for leos they are just too nervous sround something like that. You're right it is a unique idea though!!
