Eye cant open!!!

My luna had abit of a problem shedding her skin last few days... I checked on her on monday and realised that she had some skin still stuck on her head... thinking that she was molting half way, i left her alone... after one day, i went back to check on her on tuesday and realised that the skin was still there...

I picked her up and check and realised that both her eyes cant open... so i trim the skin and wet her head area with a moist cotton... slowly she struggled and the skin came off...

after awhile, her her left eye opened wide as normal... but till now, her right eye still doesn't open... it seems to have a black skin covering the eye sticking the eye lids together...

Is the eye still alright? Will she be fine after the next molt or have she gone one eye blinded? what is the cause of such a halfway molt?

Keep soaking the eye gently and see if you can get anything more off. If not, take her to the vet

Also try gently wiping that eye with a moist q-tip to get the dead skin off. If that doesn't work you'll have to go to the vet. The eye will get infected and that can lead to blindness if the stuck shed stays there. Good luck!

Bausch & Lomb "Advanced Eye Relief" (eye wash)........4 fl.oz. of eye irrigating solution. At Walmart... $4.50
keep gently flushing the eye and surrounding area regular(2 0r 3 times a day) for a few days. It will probably open but still flush it for a few days as it will want to stay shut as she sleeps. She should start licking it to get it out...if not do a vet trip...very easy for infection. be careful on touching the eye with anything.
........take care. HJ

I tried the eye wash... but do not have any gecko vet near me... it seems that the eye is 'dissolving'... as compared to the left eye, the right eyeball seemed like its getting smaller....

*panic*

It looks like she has an infection......she needs to see a vet. If you don't have a vet who can see her in your area, at least try to find one that will give you a tube of antibiotic opthalmic ointment.

I agree with all but not with an ointment..
(antibiotic drops less possible problem).....ointment will create a cap over the eye that she will have a hard time getting through when she wants to lick it. As a dog licks its wounds to heal she can help it in the same manner. I had an eye problem that I put ointment into, that the vet removed with twizzers and it looked like a small rubber cup. (the ointment).... take care Hj

You don't want them to be able to lick it.......dogs either....it does NOT help things heal when an animal can lick its wounds.... Animals are more likely to make thier injuries/infections worse if they are able to lick them when they are being treated.

An ointment keeps the meds in the eye, drops will be licked out by a gecko in a matter of seconds, not allowing them to do their job as efficiently. An ointment will not make a "rubber cap" on the eye....I highly doubt that was what the vet removed from the eye, more likely something built up from the infection itself that built up before you even started putting anything on it. They get a buildup of something in thier eyes during an infection that's untreated that creates a wierd caplike thing in there; I've seen on a couple occasions where the "cap" has to be moistened and very very gently removed....it can get quite large too. It has nothing to do with ointment.

Well, cos she still have alittle of her old skin on her so i decided to give her alittle soaking in luke warm water... she had a little 'swim' and this came out from her 'blind' eye... now i hope her eye is NO LONGER blind...

I first thot i was pus but this was of a thick sticky texture like wat u will get out of stubborn and big pimples...

The gunk that comes out of pimples IS pus... and that gunk from her eye is b/c of an infection. If you do not treat the infection, she will reform that deposit....you HAVE to speak with a vet or you run the risk of her dying if it goes systemic....

I had a problem with my gecko and he couldn't open his eye either. But in his eyes was skin that he seemed to have gotten in it. When I got the skin out it had turned yellow but I dont know if it was sticky. It could possible be skin that was in your gecko's eye because you said thats she has been having trouble shedding. Just a thought I am putting out there.

What you pulled out of your gecko's eye was NOT just the skin......trust me, I've seen it before. Your gecko has an infection and it NEEDS to be treated or the gecko will at minimum lose sight in that eye....and could potentially die.

Yellow and green are bad, bad colors in veterinary medicine.
Leopard geckos seem to like to develop abcesses, especially in the eye area. Most likely very treatable, just make sure you find a vet that knows what he's doing. Reptilechannel.com has a great list of reptile vets that are state to state. Good luck.
