At our old house we used bottled water for everybody. Us, dogs, fish, leos..... We had boil water notices a couple times a month...it was awful. At our new house, our tap water is actually really good. So now we all use that. I've always gone by whether or not it's good enough for us to drink. If it's not, then it's not good enough for our scale/furkids, either. :main_no:

Purified

Reverse osmosis purified water is all i use for them. My theory is if it has extremely small traces of anything even well below the fit for humans to drink standards, it might be bad for those little guys and gals, considering how small they are compared to us.

448 grams are in 1 pound. A 250 pound human is a gecko that weighs 112,000 grams. Knowing that ,10 parts per billion of arsenic is acceptable for humans to have in drinking water. Imagine what 10 parts per billion does to a gecko that weighs 70 grams! :main_thumbsdown:

just my thoughts! sorry about the book

I still see no cons of using distilled water, we use it for human babies, I feel if the gecko is getting proper vitamins and calcium, the water can be just what it needs to be for, hydration and humidity..

I don't feel tap water is good at all, imagine some of our cities harsh/hard water, crystalizing mineral and fluoride (which is a neurotoxin) deposits in the geckos vital organs..

I don't feel any amount of arsenic or fluoride etc belongs in my body at all. Be warned too, a lot of bottled water sold, is IN FACT just well water or (purified) tap water.

Haha, I heard about that from Jay Leno (Gotta Love that). Aquafina admitted to using tap water and bottling it! lol I didn't take into consideration city water. I forgot about the added supplements. I am country dweller with well water ;)

Actually, using distilled or RO water may not be the best choice... it removes ALL trace minerals. I drink filtered tap water, and that's been good enough for my geckos for almost 13 years!

I thought she used bottled middle-east water :).

I still see no cons in the distilled water, there is plenty of controversy on all of the water "types" for human use anyhow... I just am not one to ingest fluoride and other wild chemicals, as with most here, if it's not good enough for me, it's not good enough for my geckos :).

Trace minerals (minute)in the small amount of tap-water they do sip up, i'm sure can be replaced quite easily with Herptivite or Miner all regimens that most of us already use, basically I don't think they get much supplementation from water anyhow, but if it is any amount of bad stuff (ex.arsenic, lead), it's a no no for me.

This is a great thread :)

I miss my Maryland well water that came from a natural underground aquifer on my land in the country - best water I've ever tasted. California water tastes horrible (like we have so much here). And the calcium deposits are incredible. Bottled water for me and my pretties.

I use either store bought bottled water or filtered water from the Glacier machine outside the store. The Penta bottled water is very good, but my favorite lately is the Icelandic Glacial water from the Olfus spring. The top of the bottle is shaped like a multi faceted crystal or something.

The tap water here is not that bad though since I live in the mountains. It comes from an artesian well, so if I have to use some tap water occasionally I don't worry about it too much.

Our geckos drink the same water we drink: filtered and boiled water.

We give them tap water with the blue dechlorinating stuff, a few drops is fine for the amount we give them, though when were on vacation we make the people who take care of them give them bottled water.

i use tap water, but a few times when the heat lamp is on and the water evaporates you can see a white residue in the water dish. That must be the stuff in the water which makes me want to use bottled water.

i voted tap ,but i am on well.... studies have found in certain locations that tap water non well water is much better for you than the bottle water that is stripped of all minerals.

I go through atleast 2 gallons a week of water :) I fill uncapped containers with water and leave them sit for a few days to dechlorinate.

years ago, you could just let tap water sit out and the chlorine would naturally evaporate--but now, with the modern water treatment plants new methods, it simply never evaporates--now you must add 'something' to remove the chlorine.

I use distilled for eggs, hydrating laying boxes and misting. But I use tap water for their drinking dishes.
