Well i actually just got him in his setup.....no uth yet because the way we got him was so sudden but its going to be here on weds...but he looks like he wont eat or anything.....he wont even come out the hide idk how im supposed to get him to eat.
Yikes, thats a skinny leo. Atleast be sure he has a humid hide, warm hide and cool hide, keep him in the warmest area of the house possible. Small mealies and pinhead crickets would be good food choices for his size.
Definitely a Murphys Patternless, possibly albino (Post a picture of its eyes for confirmation). It is VERY skinny, but I have witnessed them come back from worse condition so it isn't impossible. You need to get it some heat ASAP. If you have a human heating pad you can set it on low and use it for a few days while you wait on a proper heat mat to arrive.
I STRONGLY reccomend you take tihs gecko back and get a refund.. the odds of it surviving are next to zero.. esp. since you do not have a proper set up..
then.. put togther a set up.. we can help. .. and THEN buy a gecko.. best if from a breeder and not a petstore.
I hear u but i just dont want him to die.....the heater comes weds so ill do the warmers until then.....my girlfriend wants to at least give it a try cuz she feels like with petco hell just suffer and suffer so i hope this lil guy will come around hes already bittin me like 9 damn times lol
Like by slowly declining due to inadequate heat? Or maybe developing nutritional deficiencies because it's not being offered appropriate sized prey items? Possibly risking stress and injury as a consequence of being harassed and handled too frequently?
Why is it worse if it's subjected to the imperfect conditions in a pet store than it is if it's subjected to the imperfect conditions in someone's home? How is it preventing suffering if it's not being properly cared for after it was purchased? Why is it somehow okay for an owner to neglect an animal into a state of ill-health or subject it to preventable and predictable risks for no benefit without condemnation; while a petstore will be criticized and attacked with minimal (and sometimes entirely absent) justification?
... you're not saving anything by buying it and harming it yourself. Your ignorance and maltreatment is no more ethical or praiseworthy than the sometimes questionable practices* of retailers. You shouldn't have purchased this animal when you were unable to care for it. You definitely shouldn't mouth off about the evils of petstores when you're guilty of identical, or arguably worse, transgressions.
If you do not have the required items to care for an animal, you either don't buy the animal or you obtain them immediately. You bought the gecko at a Petco, you should have picked up anything you needed and didn't have while you were there. You do not sit around with your thumb up your backside waiting on an Amazon order for a week and a half while an animal declines in order to save four bucks off retail.
The sheer hypocrisy is infuriating to witness. I feel compelled to ask about thermostats, the arrangement of hides and quarantine practices but I have a feeling the answers will make that vein in my forehead throb right through the skin and it's always such a mess getting blood splatters out of the keyboard.
*Petcos can vary pretty significantly in just how questionable they actually are or are not
Although Seamus can be a bit flowery in his statements, I agree with him 100% in this situation. Take this little Murphy Patternless back to the Petco store, and once you have provided an enclosure WITH heat, and read a few care sheets, then you might consider getting another gecko that is healthy. Perhaps even from a breeder here on GF.
Regardless of what feeders you offer, the little gecko most likely will not eat until it has belly heat, and it cannot afford to lose a single gram of weight at this point.
well guys sorry i havent posted yet...last night we got him a nice 20 gallon tank and a zoomed uth and he seems to be drinking water at least now....my gf went to go pick the stuff up but i was at work....in sum weird fashion petco gave her yet another leo for what idk (could they be giving away sick leos to get rid of them?) anyway i doubt the new guy is sick...they were all in the same tank in petco and trust me hes fine as soon as i put him in the tank that lil fella ran in the moist hide and started shedding....ate 8 mealies this morning....the real little patternless is still turning away food but hes guzzling that water down....so i guess in due time hell come around! thanks guys for helping...any other suggestions? and ill post a pic of my other new gecko so you can tell me what morph he is if you guys dont mind! i have another tank with 2 other leos and another tank with one of my other leos who recently dropped his/her(i think its a female) tail.....shes eating and drinking and licking calcium and just chillin in her moist hide as well...the other 2 guys are still acting normal in there cage....so yea...i have a little zoo going on in here....
