That's actually how I incubate them. Cost me $2 to make 4 of them... (Sorry I didn't see your post, Robin)

If you went to buy the "egg crate" how much would it cost for one sheet??? If you buy containers, how much do they cost???

I seriously doubt it cost 2 bucks to make 4 of them... Lets be real here... A standard 2 X 4 sheet of light defuser runs a minimum of 15 bucks retail...

Seriously why is this being discussed here? Isn't there a forum provided by Gregg for this product on his website? Also I'm pretty sure he has a telephone or cell phone that he can be contacted at as well as an e-mail address.

It's seriously annoying having to see Gregg defend his product in a public mannor.

Gregg, there's a 99cent store here who sells containers 8 for $1. The egg crate I got at Home Depot in a scrap section. I got a 2'x1' section and got it for like $1.50. Okay so my bad. Not $2. $2.50-ish. ;)

Wait a minute here... who's knocking the product??? People are talking about making something similar at home (which Steve and I did years ago BTW) for cheaper. There is nothing to defend IMO. As far as the patent stuff, I have no idea about any of that. Gregg says there is a patent and therefore he has nothing to worry about. I'm sorry I didn't see this thread earlier but I have not been online in a couple days. Rest assured this thread wil be discussed by myself and the moderators.

I'm just going to close this thread for now. In the meantime, SIM container issues and questions should be sent to Gregg via pm or email, or posted on the forum on the Squamata Concepts website. I agree with Ryan that these issues should be discussed off this website for now.

OK, reopening the thread. SIM discussion is fine, positive and negative critiques are allowed, but please do not get into legal mumbo jumbo here. If you want to chat about patent legalities take it elsewhere. Thanks! :)

Once the hova bator issues are fixed I'm buyin a sim. No need to run all over to buy stuff for a DIY when the real product is a mouse click away imo.

I must agree with you there, I spent $4 on my home made ones, cost of the Plastic Canvas (already had the containers as they are the same ones I use for normal substrate incubation), but it has gone to waste in a sense, because I do not use them anymore due to the HOVA issue.

I can not give you a time frame I spent making the platforms as I was also occupied watching Dragon Ball Z, I think it was about 6 episodes I watched while making the platform, more Dragon Ball watching than platform making. I would estimate that it probably took 30 minutes to cut the canvas, then glue it all together with hot glue.

The plastic canvas has not gone to waste though, I have made a strainer for my meal worms that fits right into a kritter keeper, I have made little crawling walls for the beetles to aid in removing them from the container when it is time to clean and I have used the platforms I built, to create a SIM environment, to elevate carrots off of the chicken meal to help prevent mold, yet still allow the mealworms to access to the carrots.

I will probably be purchasing a SIM for my crested gecko eggs and maybe later for my leos. Right now I do not have enough leo eggs to warrant the purchase of a SIM. I can not wait for the econo-version to come out and see what it looks like.

Eco-SIM is coming very soon.. Its exactly the same mold as the current SIM, though the plastics used are different. This will lack the clarity of the PC plastic, and the durability but retains the same clear lid and same functionality. I'll have a few test sets here to tinker with to make sure they are a-ok and then place an order. Lastly, the BIG SIM will be here in early summer too. We wanted this to come out this spring but had to push it out.
