I love reptiles but i hate the smell..

seems the best way is to obviously keep tubs cleaned everyday.
but..

thats not as easy as it sounds im sure most of you know..

i have tried air fresheners they dont help..

Never had an odor problem in my herp room. It smells like plants and soil sometimes after misting but that's normal.

For the feeder room I clean regularly and use a plug in air freshener.

This may sound really weird, but try to figure out exactly what is smelling and you may be able to solve the problem. For instance, sometimes it's poop that's gotten wet (often in the corners of the cage), or the crickets or other feeders. If you can figure out what it is specifically and treat that, you may be OK with keeping to your usual cleaning schedule.

My roaches are the only thing that smells occasinally & its only when I add more water crystals or when I harvest them. I assume they let off a defensive odor..? But sometimes (and this is only when there is an excess of gel water) I can smell them if the room gets too warm, but I put dryer sheets over the screen part of the tub & all is well.

It also could be dead feeders...if you feed daily then try to remove dead feeders when you are collecting bugs for your reps.

We have a cheapish air purifier in the gecko room. JMG just started selling some nicer ones and Jr said they work pretty good. Might have to look into them.

We have been using a two decent air purifiers for the past year. We eliminated both of them with one of JMG's about 10 days ago. My wife is much happier and the odors have been minimal. I would recommend this air purifier to any reptile or animal lovers that have any odor problems.

Here is a link to for more info, we use the spx model: http://jmgreptile.com/lightningair.html

I love the smell of gecko poop in the morning. Seriously though, when you have hundreds of leopard geckos, there is going to be an odor in your gecko room. If you are feeding them regularly at least!

I once worked at a hotel and we used those ozone machines to remove smells out of smoking rooms or whatever. They worked really well at removing smells but I was told it's not good to be in the room while it's doing its thing. I'm guessing it may have been harmful to breathe the O3 or something. It may be worth researching. I would do it but I don't mind the smell of my reptile room..lol

It wasn't too cheap. $120. It does make a big difference more in keeping the dust down, but does help with smells as well. We may get something nicer in the future.

I keep feeders in my lizard room and the worm bins do smell if their bedding needs changed. All the geckos have paper towel, which absorbs urine and will smell from that in addition to stinky poop. One thing that helps is to use a small trash can, the size that holds grocery store plastic bags, and take the trash out daily.

Sometimes one of the snakes will hide a rat or mouse between layers of newspaper. Major stink! A lot of animals = odors. It's inevitable.
