I am using one hide in a 15 qt tub as the humid hide. If they don't want to be in there then they just lay out in the open.

LOL!! I have one that loves to sprawl out on the floor and take a nap! :main_rolleyes:

I put mine on the hot side because it creates the condensation which keeps it wet, moist and warm.
You do have to spray it with water everyday though to keep it moist.

Warm or cold humidity

( I certainly agree with the quote above...Humid hide on the HOT side.)
It should be allowed to dry out and sprayed again.
I guess every one has a different opinion of humidity
and dampness........
I call cold wet conditions dampness......
IMHO....its not the way to go.....
The gecko not having multiple hides across the temperature
range is not much better than the gecko not having enough room
to live in........only a comment to fit the thread question.
I realize everyone doesn't have a 20 40 or 55 gal. tank for each gecko....
...I don't, but that's really what they deserve for comfort confinded
living.......we should all work toward larger floor space for them.
.............preaching over with... may the gecko force be with you.
take care..........HJ

We put it on the cool side but others put it on the warm side. It doesn't really matter I guess. We just like putting it on the cool side so the geckos can have a cool, moist place to lay their eggs and get away from the warm temps of the warm side.

Also, we have two hides. I have seen people use one (moist hide) on the cool side with plenty of sucess. If the geckos are in a rack system that is like an AP rack, then using a bunch of hides is really unnessary. They feel plenty secure in the dark rack.

It goes on the cool end, unless you want to constantly re-humidify the substrate. Also, if it's on the warm end and your gecko spends lotsa time in there, it can end up with skin problems. ;)

Yeah I keep mine on the cool end now, and I barely have to miss it twice a week.

In our rack systems we keep the hide near the middle, but a tad on the warm side. I personaly prefer a small warmth in mine (dont know if the leos care) Like many of you have said, mine also tend to move it where they want it!

Ive always kept the moist hides on the warm side as I just think hmmm cold and wet or like a sauna and obviously I would pick the sauna and my fattie prefers the moist side than his other hides
but when they are in shed I usually provide multiple moist hides

What kind of skin problems? I originally put my hide in the middle so that one end was a bit warmer. Noticed my leo was always smashed up against the warmer side.. As soon as I moved the hide to the warmer side of the tank he started sprawling out in it.

Im still new and haven't seen mine shed yet, but for now I keep it on the cool side because I read that it dries out too fast on warm side.

I am not trying to be rude and I hope no one gets offended by this. And I will state that I am a HUGE beginner in the world of leopard geckos.

With that said.. As far as people making statements that the humid hide will dry out too fast if kept on the warm side. If it has beneficial affects for your gecko, then can't you just add some water more often? My humid hide is right next to my UTH, and I only have to add water every few days. My baby leo has had 3 completely clean sheds since coming home.

I can understand not putting a water dish on the warm side, because there would be no benefit to it and just create more work. But a hide is different. It's sort of like saying, I only feed my gecko small portions so he defecates less.
