garter snakes,hognose snakes and I personally love the cornsnakes even though they get a little bigger then 3ft,but they are great snakes to have.

I've never known a rubber boa to bite, but good luck finding those, took me foregever to find the ones I added to our collection last month.

Corn or male ball python is what I'd go with.

You could look into Rosy Corns, AKA Key Corns. They only get around the 2 1/2 foot mark on average and are very easy to take care of. If you lived a bit closer to me, I have one up for adoption that has a gimped tail :( But still a nice snake.

I dont know why people haven't suggested a ball python, the males will rarely exceed 4-5 foot, they are really easy to care for, they get a lot more stocky then kings milks or corns, and they are amazing to watch strike feed.
So i would suggest either a King(although have a tendancy to be a big aggressive) Milk, corn or Ball python.

Corns can get large... I think a hognose would be a good choice here... They are simple to care for, rarely bite, dont get big, and they come in cool morphs these days... They are better than corns for more than just what I listed...
