I'm a little worried...

Rocks absorb things too - some more than others though.

Crap.
Maybe the ammonia will take care of it but I guess I shouldn't risk it. I'll have to toss everything inside and go crazy with the ammonia in the tank. Hopefully it's not.

I wouldnt worry so much about the rocks. As long as you soak them in ammonia, maybe boil them? They can leach chemicals and toxins into aquariums, but I don't think they can absorb crypto and release it ;P

I'll do that just to be safe. Thanks for your advice. :)

Oh no :( I was waiting for an update and hoping for the best....Sparky put up a good fight and was lucky he had you, doesnt make it any easier though...so sorry :(

Thank you.

More than likely the pet store I got him from will pay to get him checked for crypto because if it was all the other geckos are at risk. I really hope it's not. I'd hate to see all of them at the pet store to get sick too.

Ok, time for some opinions. The pet store has offered to either refund me for Sparky or replace him with a new gecko.

They will be getting a new shipment in this weekend. I'd be picking the new one straight out of the shipping box, in no contact with any other gecko or any of the cages there, that was assured to me by the manager. Not to mention the free vet (including a follow up after 15 days) and fecal.

If ny issues cropped up once again they will just refund me and leave it to that.

My next option is going to a breeder. I'm not sure where to start with this, where to look and wht have you but I'd strongly prefer local because of shipping. It scares me and with me being a cheapo the costs I couldn't handle. I do have the money, I just would prefer shipping as a last resort.

I mean I'm probably not deciding anything for a week or two so now I just want to gather opinions and such.

Well at least you know you did EVERYTHING possible to save him. He is at peace now. I would go with the breeder, because even if they ARE separate they could still have parasites. But then again, I got my leo at Petco and she has never had a single problem. Eats like a pig, good poop, FAT tail, VERY alert and super cute. lol. I really think it depends on the store. My local petco is AMAZING. Earlier this week there were a couple of guys that WERE going to buy an anole or two. They had the anoles at the checkout and were JUST going to purchase a 10 gallon tank and a spray bottle. No supplements or guloads or lights or anything. The employees were like.. We can't let you buy them like this. Then they started explaining to the guys what all they need. UVB lighting, supplements and what have you. The guys ended up just leaving with no Anoles. I was SO proud of my Petco peeps! :D

Well see even if they do have parasites, Petco will pay for the meds for removal. So I could easily get it fixed. Plus the Petco manager believes this is a one time occurrence, in her time as manager (2 years). She hasn't had this bad of a problem, but then again most people don't come back to her about them.

If I do go breeder Ill need to find one close to me. I need to go research up Google some.

That is pretty awesome though. Your petco rocks, I need to go there lol.

That's so awesome. I wish all the stores did that. You should bake them cupcakes!

Hmmmm. If I were you, I'd probably get one from the store, probably just because it's cheaper though. Like Ozy's leo, I got mine from a PetCo and she's very healthy with no issues. But if you want a fancy morph, obviously a breeder is the way to go. So I'd say which you do depends entirely on whether you want a fancy morph or you don't care. Or you could just go to PetCo when they come in, see what they have, and if nothing strikes your fancy, find a breeder.

Also, I'm sorry to hear about Sparky.

Thanks. You've been awesome with helping Sparky. All of you were!

Anywho, I'm just looking for a pet, no breeding plans and while having a pretty morph would be nice its not extremely important at all.

If anything it would hurt to see what they have!

Just got word in, they can't do the necropsy because the vet put him in the cooler.

The rest of the Geckos there are now quarantined from each other and will all be checked for parasites and crypto. The vet still said she is almost certain on crypto though.

Anywho, just an update. On the situation. *runs off*

Did she say why the cooler would affect doing a necropsy? Would it kill the parasites? When I worked for a vet all the animals we looked at after they died had been frozen for a day or so at least. That included birds and reptiles. Just curious.

He was kept too cold apparently. Or at least that's what I was told by the people at the vet's office.
