As most of you know, I had the privilege of owning the original R2 bold stripes for the past 4 years. Thinking they would continue producing the most awesome Bolds in the world, I failed to keep back any males. Well, Moms and Pops didn't produce any more offspring since '06. Kelli was the only other breeder to have a pair of siblings from the original pair.

I sent the word out to many of the GGG customers who purchased them from me, and was able to buy back an awesome pure '06 R2 male, and have a couple of females to boot! I also have a friend that lives here in my area that has a pure R2 line female, and we will hopefully work out a 2nd option for a breeding arrangement. Of course, I have never inbred gecko siblings, but if that's what we need to do to preserve this fantastic Bold Stripe morph, when I may have to change my ethics.

Stay tuned for photos once they have settled in!

Yeah, Kelli... we haven't talked in about a week, so there is lots of cool news we need to catch up on! Maybe we can doo a breeding trade to keep these incredible geckos going strong... :)

That are very great news. Would be great, if I could establish this line in Europe.

Who developed this line? I ask, because they are freakin' awesome!

Robin and Russ Struck (hence the R2 name) originally aquired a pair of geckos in a trade several years ago. It just so happened that this pair of geckos produced the most remarkable bold stripe offspring on the planet! http://www.geckoforums.net/showpost.php?p=456224&postcount=13
Kelli got several of those offspring, and has been working with the line and crossing them into her own stripe line ever since.

Robin had a corneal transplant, and had to give up most of her geckos. I offered to take some of her favorites until her eyes healed, so in October of 2005, she sent me Moms and Pops, the original pair. A year later, she had to have her second eye cornea transplant, and generously told me Moms and Pops were mine to keep, and she wasn't going to be working with geckos any longer. I was so grateful for the gift, I sent her a pair of N. milii in return.

I worked with the R2 line Bold stripes for 4 years, and crossed many of their offspring into my own line of bolds. Sadly, I did not hold back any pure R2 bold stripe males thinking there would be more. But in '07, Moms only produced a few clutches, and nothing in '09. Tragically, in late June of this year Pops developed a neurological problem that caused him to be unable to use his back legs or defecate, and the vet could not treat him so I had to make the decision to euthanize him. In all the years I have worked with geckos, he was the hardest for me to put down.

I gave Moms back to Robin last week, now that she is starting to work with leopard geckos again. I was able to buy back a pure R2 male from another breeder who purchased him as a juvenile back in '06, so I am excited to have some pure' R2's back in my collection. I have never bred siblings, but I will have to consider doing that.

Here is an old chart I made of the first year I crossed the R2's with my line:

This is another female GGG x R2 cross from this '09 season:

So as you can see, the R2 bold stripes are a legendary unique morph. Now that Robin, Kelli, myself, and a few other breeders like Steve Sykes (Geckos, Etc.) and Jeff Galewood (JMG Reptile), and Thorsten Mailander (Germany) and a few others still have some of the original bloodlines, the R2 legacy will live on.

OK, as promised here are a couple of photos of the R2 male I just got back and an R2 female. I will most likely be crossing them this season, as well as using the male with the female posted in the photo above and her mother, Lynne.
