Is the vet Dr. H? From all I've heard Leah will be in good hands

Yes, my gecko's vet is Dr. Harkewicz. He is about as good as they come, and is a reptile specialist who can perform surgery and actually save the gecko's reproductive organs!

Leah did not lay her eggs by this morning, and appears to be leaking yolk from her cloaca. I will be on my way to take her to Dr. Harkewicz in about an hour...

Well, I was just now getting Leah to take her to the vet, and she has passed one of the eggs! It is infertile, and is very deflated. I am worried about yolk in her abdomen going septic and the condition of the other egg(s), so I am taking her in to Dr. H anyway.

Leah will be spending the night at the vet's, and he'll give me a call tomorrow with his recommendation. They just want to watch her in case she lays the second egg, and gave her an injection of antibiotics in case there is an infection starting. There was quite a bit of fluid in her abdomen, but she was actually more alert and moving around when I got my last update.

I haven't heard anything from Dr. H yet. I have another small patty that is also having surgery today for a hernia repair. You'd think that after all these years breeding geckos I wouldn't be so worried about them anymore, but I do worry about them... sometimes too much.

Good thoughts are going to you and the geckos right now. Dr. Harkewicz and all the good folks at Berkeley D&C are taking good care of them. I am sure everything will be ok. An animal could not ask for a better owner/vet combo.. seriously!

It's only natural that you worry. We all know how much you care for your Leos. It's obvious just by the way you light up when you talk about them. You do right by your animals. Do your best not to stress.

Well, I just got off the phone with Dr. Harkewicz... and Leah had passed her other egg. He did an x-ray, and only sees 2 other small developing eggs. There is yolk still in her oviducts but he doesn't think it is in her abdominal cavity, and it will probably continue to seep out through here cloaca for awhile. He did not think she should have surgery, and we'll just keep her on antibiotics for another 10 days.

I feel relieved that her immediate emergency is past, and time will tell if she develops an infection. She is down to 40 grams from 56 grams, so she really needs to start eating again soon. He said I can pick her up tomorrow morning!
