Somehow I missed this post... Sorry to hear about it, but it's great to see things are looking positive! I hope she bulks up and blesses you with a fertile clutch!

Marcia, I am sooo glad to hear that Leah passed the eggs without surgery! I'll be sending positive vibes your way that the antibiotics keep infection at bay and she passes the next 2 (hopefully viable with wonderful little surprises in them ;)) with no problems.

How is the little Patty girl after her hernia surgery? I am hoping that went well, also!

She's doing just fine! She'll have a couple of sutures that need to come out in 4-5 weeks. Now, maybe she'll eat and start growing!

I just got the geckos home frm the vet! Leah is alert and moving around normally. I am hoping she will eat on her own soon... she wasn't interested even is a fat, juicy waxworm. The little one that had the hernia is being a little booger, so I'm assuming she feels better, too.

Thank you everyone for all the support. It's great to have such a wonderful community that we can share with!

Oh Marcia, I am so happy that your babies are home and are doing ok. They are in the best possible care that they can be in and I am sure that they will both be back to full health in no time at all!!!!!!

Well, Leah is going downhill. Last evening, I saw that she seemed to be in distress and had her eyes half closed, so I picked her up and put her on my chest to love her. I felt this wet stuff on my t-shirt, and saw that she had laid another very small, completely ruptured and empty egg on me! There was yolk oozing out of her vent all over me. I very gently palpated her abdomen, and more yolk came out.

I ran some warm water and rinsed her off, and wrapped her in a small towel and put her under my shirt to keep her warm. Kelli called me, and as we were talking Leah let out a loud cry. Kelli even heard it through the phone!

I talked with the vet, and he said there is nothing I can do except keep her on the antibiotics 2x daily and hope she responds. He said only a complete hysterectomy would solve this, but he doesn't think she would survive the surgery in her current condition.

So now, all I can do is wait and hope that the antibiotic will take care of the infection. I feel so anxious and helpless to do anything for my sweet baby...

I just want this to be a wake-up call for all of you who want to breed your geckos. Situations like this do happen, and they are horrible to work through. If you don't have the money for veterinary care for your geckos, you should not be breeding them, IMHO.

Marcia this exceptional amount compassion is what seperates you from so many other breeders out there! The quality of your livestock is obvious from the photos, but this is an intangible that is hard to explain and impossible not to be touched by.

Perhaps a total bill so far for the procedures will reinforce your words of caution about thinking before breeding your leopards.

Best wishes and thanks for all the help you provide to we novices!

I do not want to post the total bill because my vet does not charge me the same rates for his services he charges most of his other clients.

But I will say, that just the x-rays and blood work alone were $160.00, and the Baytril was about $30.00.

I hope Leah is going to recover okay Marcia, we wish you the best for you both!!! Why do you suppose she would let out a loud cry like that? What did it sound like? How is she doing now?

I just finished reading this entire Post and i would like to start by apologizing To you Marcia for not being here from the Very Beginning. This was almost like a Book. I was very Sad and worried about Leah In the Beginning Then when she passed Both eggs I was overjoyed and now I Have her in My heart and prayers for you. I Hope that she will make it out ok if not better than before. And I completely agree with you that this should be a good learning experience To every one. The same way a human can have complications in Pregnancy or a dog So can Leopard Geckos. And it is very important that there is a very qualified Vet that you can count on to take your animals to. I am so very sorry that this is happening but in a away i am relieved that it happen to someone as caring and Big Hearted as you Marcia. Best of Luck and please Keep us updated as you have been.

She cried out from being in pain, and I can't describe it other than it sounding like a puppy or kitten letting out a cry. Leah is lethargic, and does not want to move or open her eyes all the way. I just don't want to give up on her yet and put her down, but her condition is grave.

Marcia, that is so unfortunate... It really sucks when thing like this happen as you well know... I do not think you could have done anything at all to prevent this from going down... I hope it all works out for you and your gecko... Sending good vibes your way...

This statement is so true....

Marcia, you are the gecko whisperer. Leah couldn't be in better hands, no matter what ultimately occurs. *sending positive vibes and a big hug*
