Leah lost her battle tonight. I gave her some slurry and her Baytril, and shortly after that she started going into convulsions. I was holding her as she writhed with agony, biting down on my hand and fingers so hard it bled... as she passed her last egg in my hand. She cried out in pain, and it was a sound I will never forget as long as I live. I just held her until she stopped convulsing, and she just faded and became unresponsive. Out of love and compassion for my sweet girl, I put her in a zip-lock bag and into the refrigerator to go to sleep. My poor, poor baby...

Marcia, that post brought me to tears. I am so so sorry. I know you did your VERY best, and I hope you know there is nothing more you could have done...you went above and beyond what a lot of people would have done. RIP Leah...

I have a pair of Super Snow Rainwater albinos, both het for patternless. The female, Leah, is eggbound with her first clutch! She started ovulating in September, and I put her together with the male, Lazer. I didn't see them breed, so I left them together for about 5 days, and they got along just fine.

A couple of weeks later, I only saw follicles, so I repeated the breeding. A few weeks later, I saw that she was doubled up with follicles, but she was still eating and doing well.

Now, she has 2 full sets of eggs developing... one set I am sure is not fertile. But she is so big with eggs she can hardly move, and has not eaten in almost 3 weeks! She's lost significant weight even with slurry. We went to the vet, and had the 2 slugs asperated by about 1cc each, and got an injection of calcium and oxytocin. If she doesn't pass them by tomorrow, I will give her another injection. If that doesn't work, then she will have to have surgery on Friday to remove the eggs.

In almost 14 years I have only had this happen 3 times, and have never bred any of the females again even though my vet saved their reproductive organs during the surgery and said it should be OK.

I am so worried about Leah. I don't know of any other RWSS's, and especially het for patternless. I would like to see their babies, but I am more concerned about my girl. I feel like I have somehow done an injustice by breeding her, and have done everything this MOGL knows to do in situations likes this.

Thanks for listening...

Marcia, I am so sorry for the loss of your precious little girl. I know how much it hurts to loose one so loved. Take comfort that she is no longer in pain and she had you to be with her at the end. Hugs and healing thoughts are going out to you.
