Initial findings from Enigma Pathology results

We've now had the initial findings back from the pathology tests from 3 Enigma's submitted to our vet that we're tested in the Netherlands.

All three Enigmas had varying symptoms and they were all females.
The older female form Nick & Carrie (ArkReptiles), she developed held tilting and circling at about a year old.
We bred a Bell Enigma, she was born circling and an Enigma het bell, she didn't circle but was very unsteady and 'flicked' her head sideways

Whilst we cannot as yet publish the report as we've not had permission to report it publically, we can now rule out a number of things. Firstly there was nothing found in all three Enigmas that showed there were deformities or defects with the brain (Neurological), vestibular system (Inner ears) or Ophthalmic (eyes) in fact any major organ in there bodies.

We will of course, once we get permission we will share the full report.

Thanks
Pete & Sarah
Nick & Carrie (ArkReptiles)

I pretty much suspected there was nothing wrong with the inner ear and I figured it had nothing to do with its eyes or the fact that it might be an "occular albino" which I strongly feel it isnt. Also, I can not see how light would make an animal circle or how ordinary stresses that do not affect any other morph would have such an impact on Enigmas.
However, I thought there might have been a neurological issue. Apparently the tests conducted on your Enigmas show otherwise. I really cant wait to see the results of the testing. This could change the way this morph is bred out.

Out of the three that I have had all three had issues. Two came to me like that and the other developed the issues after a few months. I opted not to breed the two I kept for the simple fact that I have no idea what causes the problem and I do not want to add any defective genetics to the gene pool. Maybe after reading this report, I can get going on an Enigma project.:main_rolleyes:

It does appear to be encouraging news. The brain of a lizard is pretty small though, it may be difficult to see what the problem might be. Not that I'm into dissecting animals, but I'm interested to know how they studied it. Did they look at cross sections of the brain under a microscope, do a mini MRI, etc...? I guess we'll find out soon.

I would love to read this report as well. I produced a number of these animals this season and the circling behavior varied drastically from none at all, to a little, to full tilt.

I'm really curious too, being that reptilian veterinary medicine is my forte! :) Just out of curiosity, what lab did you send them to?
