I was in a Petco the other day and noticed that the reptile display had moved and was smaller. I asked one of the workers and he said that the chain, or at least his store, is moving in the direction of fewer animals and more supplies. He said his customers were in favor of this and it would allow Petco to focus on adoptions rather than new animal purchases. Just thought that would interest people.

Not necessarily, I see **** having some sort of Blow Out sale, and those Reptiles will suffer.

That is a good idea just bacuase the reptiles wont suffer. Nigel4less has a point though I would be worried about who gets these reptiles if they do some blow out sale.

Yeah, I did notice they made the reptile section smaller at mine as well, they got rid of around 10 tanks, didn't know what the reason was though. I only go there for frozen mice though, the Petsmart around here is a lot better. Oh, and also at mine they didn't do a blowout sale, they just never replaced the animals in the tank when they were sold out, one a few of the tanks were empty for months before they got rid of them.

Our store here is doing the same thing. They're down to about half the tanks and only a fraction of those have any animals in them.

Well, I thnik that's good in the sense after a while the animals won't suffer but until this "Blowout Sale" is over but in a way it kindof isn't. Most people will probably buy the reptile because it is cheaper and know absolutely nothing about it, but it's good in the long run I guess. And it's happening over at our Petco too. They said instead of the usual price on BPs, (80 frikken dollars!!) it was going to be $30. Which I can buy a captive breed baby BP at the reptile show I go to for 15 to 20. :main_yes: :batman:

I think they already had their blowout sale because about a month ago, a lot of animals were 30% off. They actually don't really need to do that, but can just not replace the animals being sold so that the inventory goes down.

The Co is probably the worst place for leos to be. There is not good care there. A blow out sale on them would probably be mostly good since some one could buy them and give them the care they need that they aren't getting at the store. Just my opinion.

I certainly hope that the other chain pet store follows suit and begins to reduce their animals as well. That will make it a bit more difficult for people to just buy reptiles on a whim, they'll be forced to actually think about purchasing a reptile and then to do the research to find a breeder, hopefully resulting in them finding out the proper ways to house the animals.

While the drastic sales on their current animals may result in an increase of people purchasing reptiles without proper knowledge, the increase will be short since they aren't restocking, thus resulting in alot fewer mistreated animals in the future. And as Jared said, it can't get much worse than the chain stores, so while the animals may not get the proper care with their new owners, they will at least be recieving 'better' care than previously.

I'll say this, the first time I got a leo, I knew nothing. That was about 2 months ago. Now my girl friend jokes about me being a gecko expert (I'm not btw...just more aware thanks mostly to this forum and everyone here) and the thing is that she's the one that wanted a leo...lol. I guess that's just my personality though. There are some who would purchase a leo (or any animal) and not take proper care of it, but hopefully most will be like me. Purchase one not knowing anything, and become an "expert"...lol.

You guys....... We can't discuss the ethics of any breeder or company on here. Remember the TOS? I'm closing this thread.
