I really cant say much more on this thread. The last thing that I will say is that I really hope, for the pets sake, that he gets taken care of properly and turns out ok.

I'm not even gonna go into this, pretty much all I would say has been said already anyways.

But, I WOULD like to point out that if treating an accidental injury like this is a problem for you then you have NO business starting to breed. One injured leo? Haha, you should see the average vet expenses for a breeder. Probably not going to make much on an impact, but for the animals sake, I felt the need to say something.

Ok look we all (as adults) understand the responsibilities when it comes to pets. I have a 5 year old son who knows about taking care of reptiles only because he was raised with them. This kid is 14 years old...still a child...and as adults you are all scolding him and lecturing him on his irresponsibility. Yes they need to be stated and they were...and for the other x amount of people who restated it and +1ed it all needs to realize he came here for help. Yes I agree he has done something wrong and gotten in over his head. So why don't you request his parents e-mail and express it to them.

For everyone who says they know how to take care of reptiles and would never put them on the ground and so on. Please when I was a boy I had my snakes out and about every time I had the chance. Around my neck at dinner and with me on the couch. Accidents happen and you cant act like you have never done something dumb with a reptile. If you say you haven't then you either have not been in the reptile keeping business very long or your lying.

He is 14...how many kids his age can afford a vet when they get a pet. Most pet stores wont even sell to kids his age...which means his parent assumed the vet responsibilities not him. He couldn't even take it to a vet unless he were 18 years old. Liability issues.

As an end result we can all agree its a stupid mistake and the poor gecko needs medical help desperately. No debating that. But ease off the kid. So many "adults" on here get butt hurt when someone says their gecko isn't pretty or something...and yet as a community were attacking a kid. Grow up and help the situation not cause more problems.

As for thegeckoguy, give the leo away to someone who will properly take care of it or find a way to coax your parents into loaning you the money for proper care.

This is my opinion on this matter

As i was going through this tread i began to get more upset because of the way you all were bashing this kid, and as I was reading his responses not one time did he lash back. You were all wrong as two left shoes, the title of this thread is how his leos leg is broke and he couldnt go to the vet aka help, not bash, but help. Thanks Mr. Enigmatic for scolding everyone else for acting the geckoguys age and not their own. hopefully you have learned from it. This is a place where people come for help lets all do that.

Hay i got the help that was needed and i had my parents bring me to the vet dumb ass i cant drive i need to figure how to delet this thred

There's the "lash back" you mentioned not seeing.

I still stand by my saying that we need to be more helpful than critical... but at this point I just kind of want to /facepalm and slap his parents for not teaching him to be more responsible.

:main_rolleyes:

Sigh...

I just kind of want to /facepalm and slap his parents for not teaching him to be more responsible.

Just to participate in pointing fingers, if he did in fact take his pet to the vet then he is taking responsibility.
And the responsibility for his not knowing the importance of a vet also falls on who ever sold him the leo to begin with. This is a community responsibility that begins with the breeder/petsore/wherever he got it from, his parents, and himself. I think he did the right thing in coming here and it did lead to proper medical care. I'm new so I'm pretty shocked about the harshness of which people approached this kid with minimal information on his background with this gecko. Now that he's done the right thing and everyone has emphasized the importance of vet visits, lets give him a break.

Also, whoever said a leo splint cost $30 obviously doesn't know what they are talking about. Out where I am the vet requires a full exam which fees start at $55, + $30 for the splint and +$ for an infection. Really do your research on someones location before you start pointing out costs, pointing them in the direction of an affordable vet does more for the lizard and morale than assuming your cost is the same everywhere.

Sorry for my rant, it's all in good humor.

Well if he got it from a chain store, I don't think they really bother checking whether or not the person who purchases a leo is responsible. *cough*

Okay I'm done. :D Hope the leo is okay

Would love to see pics of your leo . hope he heals good and im glad you were able to get him to a vet. This was probably a good lesson learned and unfortunately alot of lessons are learned the hard way. That being said I hope in the future if you have a problem with your leo or need help you ask for it whether it be from your parents or online here. Dont take everything to heart use what you can and do your best to make it better. Alot of these comments sound negative but its in the interest of the gecko ,and all they want is for the gecko to be ok and looked after , there are alot of us who have taken in rescues and we see the aftermath of irresponsible owners and neglected animals so thats where alot of us are comming from.
I hope you continue to post and read threads and educate yourself on your pet/s there is always something to learn. Take care , Post some pics for us =)

You just said yourself it is $30 for the splint. And you do mean leopard geckos right?
edit: yes I do know that you don't mean to bash. And if you know that then thanks for the info :D

Read it again, technically it's $80 for the splint. Around here you can't get away without an exam. :main_thumbsdown:

I agree that it's over Bridgette but I was on an adoption thread, and I'm kinda disturbed. Was the problem a lack of funds or a lack of a ride? I'll accept pretty much whatever you say (I'm not gonna assume you're evil) but if you were short on funds why did you offer $40 dollars for a leo on the 8th? Though a day before this thread was posted it didn't look that good pal. I'm sure it was just a matter of timing (and no I'm not being facetious). I've been as guilty as you have of not seeking immediate medical attention for the leo problems I've been worried about. I'm not going to defend the position, it's a bad practice and I'm trying to be better about it. Actually I plan on selling blood plasma more often to pay the bills for my little leos better.
