To quote an Animal Science TA that I had last year... "If it tastes like chicken, why not eat chicken??":)

No waxworms recipes, but lots of yummy mealworms treats you can make. :main_thumbsup:

I squished a waxworm taking it out of the cup for my leo (I think they were in a part of the fridge that was too cold), but I can't picture eating it. That is too funny.

I've seen people eat pinkies. It's a delicacy in some parts.. (Because people don't have rats all over the world?!)

I have eaten mealworms, but not wax worms. To be honest I've eaten a lot of bugs and have found that most brown colored bugs have a nutty flavor and green ones pretty much taste like leaves or grass. I'm being totally serious and not trying to gross anyone out. Like OSU said, people all around the world eat bugs... It's just that here we have the convenience of having our food prepacked, cooked, canned and vaccum seeled and when we see things in their raw state it makes most of us squirm.

ISNT THERE A LABEL THAT SAYS "NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMTION!" LOL, well I guess all future generations of leo lovers will thank you because you did what all other leo lovers were to scared to do, lol :) . Anyway, thank you for making me laugh, lol :)

Seriously, I bet if someone ate a mealworm recipe, without knowing mealworms were in it, or thinking mealworms were a kind of worm shaped grain, they might just think it delicious, if they liked nutty flavor...

Well, and if you can get past the mental part, they are certainly easy enough to grow in LARGE quantities and high in protein.

I will have you all over for Mealworm Canapes and Mealworm Cookies and you can give me advice on my leo! ;)

Have any of you ever watched Fear Factor? I would love to go on the show, the stunts don't bother me. It's all the crazy "food" that they want you to eat. I have always said if I had to eat crix, mealies or waxies for the show I would, just to prove to my lizards that I can eat it too!! :main_laugh: :main_laugh:

Nikki and I used to watch it all the time. She was at Disney World a few weeks ago and watched it live. She kept begging me to try to get on the Couples show with her, but I don't think I sign up for eating bull testicles or a cockroach/stink beetle milkshake. She claims she would be fine unless it had anything to do with snakes. I think that is all I WOULD be ok with haha.

Matt,
You really need to come by and visit me at my table on April 22nd and do this mealworm and waxworm consumption thing in front of an audience. It would definitely create quite a stir. We could create some type of crazy promotion.....for example.... "for every gecko you buy, Mealworm Matt here will eat a mealworm or similar crawling bug". You could get a 10% cut of the price of the gecko sold. Then, aside from the thrill of captivating (or totally sickening) your audience, you would also have the thrill of using your own earnings to fill another tank or two with some Leos. Just think, if it's your cash, your dad might not be so disagreeable to you buying some more. Sounds like a good plan, right?
