thats what im saying. The term 'raptor' doesn't always work. A raptor is defined as a patternless gecko with red eyes, but that isnt often what people label as raptor. ive been a fan of saying eclipse tremper since i first got into leopard geckos, but that doesnt always work either... but now we are getting into something completely different.

i appreciate your opinion.... your giant bell posts are always a treat.

well the problem is people are calling banded, jungle stripe etc. raptors just because they're a tremper albino eclipse, there is a lot of debate to this and some as myself do not consider them raptors, the only raptors i sell are actual patternless and red eyed, anythign else, patterned or aptors will go for lower because to me, they're not true raptors. just because something is eclipse and albino (which gives red eyes) doesnt' mean it's a raptor.

Ok now i agree that RAPTOR TO RAPTOR does not give you 100% raptors, atleast this is what i have found out since breeding these guys since they hit the market. But here is another tid bit of info,,,Every APTOR i have worked with has been 100% het for eclipse...Marker at work here????

I really feel like calling a homozygous eclipse animal an aptor isnt doing that animal justice, regardless of what the eyes look like.

hmmmm. .... I wonder how you would sell an RAPTOR not showing the eye trait as a RAPTOR?

What is your personal exeperience in breeding the RAPTOR's so far? I'm curious to know if you are getting different results. I believe the majority of RAPTOR/Eclipse breedings result in some normal eyed animals. I have seen some with 1% markings and some with no markings but can still produce eclipses. You would never call an Albino an Albino if it did not express the trait, why an RAPTOR if it does not have Ruby eyes?

I do believe that it may be possible to produce all RAPTOR's from a pair but it would have to be a very special breeding pair that both have the multi-recessive genetics to unlock the eclipse gene fully.

Pat, I have had the same experience with my breedings.

If you think you can sway the public with your viewpoint on what should or shouldn't carry the tag "RAPTOr", then go right ahead. :main_laugh: If I'm not mistaken, the "Morph Creator" uses the term "Banded RAPTOr" himself. It's been going on a while, and has caught on in the hobby, and there's probably little you can do to change that. I personally don't see anything wrong with this naming. The clearer you can define a gecko with it's morph name, the better IMO.

i am going to say that as a majorety a full RAPTOR X full RAPTOR will result 98% of the time in full RAPTORs. that other 2% is the time when you get all the other stuff. i wouldnt say it would take a "very special pair" as you had said thad.

merlin, the outcome would bee the same as a RAPTOR by snow RAPTOR just with different percentages because an APTOR would only be het RAPTOR

That depends if that aptor is "het" raptor or not, most are but some aren't. Everyone that stated raptor x raptor does not always produce all raptors are correct, some aptors and some albinos het raptor are also produced depending on their patterns as seen with JMGs referral to snow trempers het raptor instead or calling them snow aptors...

This aptor was produced from raptor x raptor breeding

These snow aptors het raptor were produced from snow raptor x snow het raptor

This snow albino het raptor and banded snow raptor were also produced from snow raptor x snow het raptor

I am no expert on RAPTOR genetics but I think if you have snake-eyed RAPTORs, they may have a higher chance of having APTOR offspring because they are a lower percent of eclipse, and that would make sense in my mind that it would produce less full offspring when crossed,
I don't exactly know the way to explain it...anyone know what I'm getting at?

Nevin, I have only breed hets to full RAPTORs so I was going off my previous research on this website. I looked back throught the threads and have found that breeders has stated that they do not produce 100% RAPTORs/Eclipse but they do not list percentages.

I think we are talking about the eclipse gene specifically in this post, it would be interesting to know results of breeders using RAPTOR x RAPTOR. Were all the offspring 100% Eclipse, 98%, 75% etc. Please list how many hatchlings in your %'s.

Example: 15 hatchlings 98% RAPTOR
