So, after seeing so many "what the heck is my leo" threads, I've come up with a solution...

I'm going to start breeding in the name of the morph on the tail of each of my leos. Below, you can see the prototype. It's a RAPTOR, and you clearly see the R,A, the beginnings of the P and then it fades.

It may take me another generation or two, but I'm hopeful that in a few generations we can end all the confusion because we can say "Oh, that's a bold stripe het. bell x Afghanicus het nothing. See, it says it right there on the tail!"

I think this is really gonna make my mark on the herp world, I just haven't decided what to to tail people I'm gonna call it yet.

Thank you Jordan, your moral support is felt and appreciated.

Robert, I think that's an easy one. I'll just make the letters small... or the tail bigger.

haha laugh if in the future the 'name tail' becomes genetic. Because then you could stick a raptor tail on a normal, then loads of people will be confused again....

actually youvce inspired me to go check my raptors. lol.

See that's the beauty of it... the name would be bred in, so it would hard to alter.

Hets would be the hard part... and then some people just can't spell worth a dang. That might mess things up.

What happens if it has a stub tail and your emotions won't let you cull it? Can you tattoo it on its belly? Or is that o.k.?

Well, this is groundbreaking genetic work I'm doing here, and I don't pretend to have all the specifics, or even to be sure that I know how to spell RAPTOR...

If we could start doing snakes though, we could write anything we wanted.

Well, what would happen if the leo dropped it's tail? Would it still be printed on the new tail? Maybe the letters would be squished together 'cuz they're stubbier? LOL, Kevin and the rest of you guys crack me up.

Neat pic, btw.

There was a great Sci Fi short story in an Analog magazine a few years ago about a genetic engineer who owned a pet store and bred the angel fish to have different letters on their sides. Then the fish started lining up and spelling things . . .
