Well Russell, I generally don't care for people that are not truth tellers. That does not mean I will not be direct and honest with you. :)

Your first post on GeckoForums was in August asking for advice on caring for your first leopard gecko. Shortly thereafter you are buying geckos off Craigslist and at PetCo, (not to mention posting wanted ads in the Adoption forum) and immediately after that you are posting about how you plan on breeding those geckos. Then you are posting photos asking people to "sex my geckos please".

To clarify something, I have no problem with experienced breeders offering educated opinions and advice about the pros and cons of breeding leopard geckos. What annoys me is when people that barely have experience in keeping leopard geckos, much less breeding them, get on here and talk down to someone else that is no different than they were six months ago. It's hypocritical.

Just because I own this website doesn't mean I don't have strong opinions on certain topics. :p I would post this on any site I was a member of. For those of you that are offended by my post(s), that's ok. :D

Happy Christmas GF! :xmas:

I like any morph with red eyes.
We have a small aquarium store with an even smaller reptile section, and although I would think people love orange geckos, we sell more albinos than we do tangerines. (Like, 2 geckos a month...its pretty small lol).

Staff members are our biggest customers.

Full edit : everyone is misunderstanding.
I'm looking to start breeding, I have the knowledge, supplies, and everything I need besides the Geckos. I'm starting slow, with a pair of relatively non-expensive leopards. My question is - what's a good idea for a pair to start with? A solid pair that has POTENTIAL to sell well (I'm not looking for a job, just a hobby that I can recycle funds with and get more, as I'm sure many of you started). Also, is there a document or page where I can find the traits and which are dominant/recessive..etc?

If I were starting over again, I guess I'd probably go with a couple pair. A pair of a color morph, (albinos or snows) and a pair of a pattern morph (patternless or blizzard) you could probably get both pair for under a hundred bucks. Also the likelyhood that they'd be het for something else is pretty good so you might end up with something else to play with.

I'll try to say things that haven't been said yet (though I've said some of these things on other threads):
--for info about morphs and genetics, check out the leopardgeckowiki.com. Last year I read the entire thing because I was copy editing it, and while there were a few problems with content, most of it was pretty good

--I think just about any leopard gecko morph except enigmas could be considered a "beginner" morph, though to get really good results with line breeding I think you have to be prepared to utilize a larger breeder population and to be willing to sell the breeders that don't produce what you want.

--Everything else I have to say about starting out to breed and sell geckos I've already said in 3 articles I wrote for Gecko Time:

Start with raptors or maybe just tremper albinos, the seem to sell plenty of low end geckos at a pet store near me. I've breed a few different critters never geckos, can't say I ever profited but I've traded Maroon clown fish for store credit as well as chincillas (had a few and still don't know how to spell). But in the end both became more trouble so I gave the chins away to pet store employee, still have the maroon clowna but no longer pprpoducing. But they help pay for some supplies so it wasn't so bad. But welcome and good luck. Tons of info here!
