No such thing as a dumb question...

I read in a thread the other that there is no such thing as a dumb question. Well, I think the only folks who believe that are a few grade school teachers and the children they tell it to. Those of us who live in the real world know this is not true, there definitely is such a thing as a dumb question.

For instance, many moons ago, I was a professional whitewater guide, and was asked MANY times "Hey, are we gonna take out the same place we put in?"

Yeah. That's what I thought. Stupid question, myth debunked.

Anybody else been asked a dumb question, or am I the only one?

Oh there are definately dumb questions. I think a lot of it has to do with common sense. However, there is a point when someone might hesitate to ask a question in fear of being accosted because others assume the answer to be common knowledge. It's better to ask then not to know. That being said, it pays to do your research before coming to others with questions. There is a difference between a question asked out of ignorance and a question asked out of sheer laziness to do a small amount of work and find out the answer on your own.

No way, that one's too dumb to be made up. A made up question would be more believable. It's just so unbelievable that I have to believe it really happened.

Hahah there are definitely dumb questions. I'm a graphic designer and I get a lot of "Did you do that?" No. Really. I sit here and monitor my computer while it does it for me. I have to kick it every so often to keep it in line, but I pretty much just sit here and stare at the screen all day...

I'm a finish carpenter, and people regularly see the finished product, and say "Wow! That looks really good!"

As if they expected it to look like bloody hell
