I figured I would post some updated pics of my less commonly kept species of gecko, since everyone has acclimated well and some have started to begin breeding behavior.

First up is Ghyra marginata, Halmahera Giant Geckos. Commonly sold as "Vorax geckos" which is incorrect, Ghyra vorax is extremely rare, and has amber eyes, as you can see here, marginata has green. These are pics of the male; Hansa, since Loki the female is gravid and is very shy atm and I didn't want to mess with her too much.

Next is Cyrtodactylus intermedius, "Nightstalker" Bent toed Geckos. The male, Noche is quite easily handled, the female, Cleo, not so much, she squeaked at me the entire time and bit me for my efforts. :D

And these are Cyrtodactylus irianjayaensis, Giant Bent Toed Geckos. These guys are crazy cool. Big, slow moving(except for the occassional leap) easy to keep, and I love those curly Q tails. The male, Scarface, had a pretty big wound on his nose that has healed up nicely. The female, Elvira, eats like a horse. Both have plumped up nicely. They spend A LOT of time together, even with multiple hides in a large enclosure, and I've caught them copulating a couple of times. Hope to see eggs sometime in the future.

And finally, a couple of shots of my Uroplatus fimbriatus, Giant Leaf Tailed Gecko, pair. These guys are really doing well, pounding down roaches like there's no tomorrow. Since they remind me so much of the movie AVATAR, I've dubbed them Turook and Banshee.

Thanks everyone! :D

They look great, it's hard to pick favorites.

haha, thanks, Tony. I have the same problem, though the Uroplatus are VERY high on the favorite list, they're just so different and cool to watch at night, very active geckos.

I am thinking about expanding into a few Uroplatus species, I want something a bit more challenging and they should do well in the frog room.

They're all awesome, really. I love the giant leaftails.

But those Halmaheras have the weirdest, coolest looking claws I think I've ever seen. The toe pads look entirely flat, and then this massive claw just pops straight up and out. That doesn't even look like it would work... very neat. Love those big bug eyes, too.

They're a really neat species. They act sort of like giant day geckos; really fast, delicate skin, and NUTS for CGD. Really simple to keep, 80s for temps, CGD and bugs. They can be handled, but you have to be careful, they're skin rips really easily and some can be a bit bitey. :main_laugh: They get huge, 13 inches.

They really are very interesting to keep, and we definately need more breeders of them out there, the imports won't last forever. I plan to pick up a few more species next month. A frog room would be perfect for Uroplatus, they like low temps and high humidity. I especially think phantasticus or ebanaui would do well in the type of setups you use for your frogs with a few tweaks.

Yeah, the claws are neat, I've heard them refered to as "eagle talons" or coat hooks before. :main_laugh: They hook them into you pretty well when you handle them too, stick like velcro.
