I just wanted to share this with you guys, because this is the first time something like this has happened to me, and it was REALLY SCARY. So if this hasn't happened to you before, keep me in mind if and when it does, so it doesn't FREAK you out like it did me!!

Last night I had a very bad accident.. I was sitting on the floor, and one of the cats was opening the door to the gecko room, so I stood up really fast to chase after the cat. Needless to say, I don't remember anything after that. Mike heard a loud BOOM and me saying "oh (enter 4-letter word here)!" and then silence for twenty seconds. He got up and I was laying on the ground, half in the bathroom, and half-way sticking into the hallway.. he said "Are you all right?" and so I woke up. For some reason unknown to me, I thought I had been laying there for awhile, just relaxing.. I said "Oh, I'm fine, I was just laying down for a second"...

So then I get up and come back to the living room.. I slowly began to realize that wasn't what happened at all, but I was still very confused.. I said "I think I fell".. and that's when Mike realized that there was something kind of wrong with me. He KNEW I wasn't just laying there in the hallway, but because I was talking normal at first, he thought maybe I was just embarrassed to admit that I had fallen.

So he confirms to me that yes, I did fall. So I sat on the couch next to him, and this was one of the scariest times I have ever experienced.. I remember everything very clearly, even though I wasn't very conscious at the time.

The first thing that happened was my mind was flooded with memories.. but I couldn't distinguish whether they were memories from the past, present, future, or from dreams. When I had realized that fact, I freaked out even more. My mind was totally gone, I couldn't focus on any one thing and so I went to go lay down to try to sleep. Well, I couldn't sleep, my mind was still doing very weird things.. I realized that there was something very wrong, and I didn't know if I was going to be like that forever.. so I was crying my eyes out.. then I realized that I remembered everything I had done yesterday, and I remembered the things I planned to get done today.. so then I came to the conclusion that I still knew who I was and at least could remember a few things.. but I wasn't sure if I'd be okay.. I wondered if I would just remember everything before the accident and end up being some kind of person that wouldn't be the same ever again (think of Drew Barrymore on 50 first dates, that's what I was thinking of).. But then again, I realized how I was thinking about all of this, and so I knew I wasn't all too gone.. but my mind would just jump from one thing to another, and I didn't know what I was even thinking about a lot of the time, it was SO WEIRD and scary!!

Mike says that I must have had a mild concussion. I stayed awake talking to him, and after about two hours, I was feeling more like myself. I am fine today and everything too, but it was still one of the trippiest things to ever happen to me.. so I apparently fainted/blacked out from standing up too quickly, then perhaps hit my head on something very VERY hard, and knocked myself out.

wow! I am glad you came out of that OK :) Sounds like your neurotransmitters weren't fast enough to get your heart pumping faster as you got up......at least you didn't get seriously hurt.

I'm glad you're OK now. You may want to check yourself for short term memory and concentration as you go through your usual activities. Some people recover pretty quickly from a concussion like you seem to be doing, but sometimes there are some mild difficulties with concentration, thinking of the right word and memory that can persist for awhile, especially when the person is tired or stressed. This, of course, is the usual state of things for us people over 50, but at least we get awhile to get used to it.

Well when I go to the doctor, my blood pressure is normally good, but if and when it isn't, it's low.. So I'm thinking it could have been due to low blood pressure..?

But thank you, it was pretty scary, glad to be OK too :main_yes:

Yes, I have noticed that my short term memory and concentration weren't all there last night, even after I felt better. I am feeling better today, but I still feel some of it, just not as bad. Thanks :)

Jess.. thats very scary... I have had something like that happen before... It kind of worries you that you arent in total control of your thoughts and you cannot understand what is going on inside your own body..

I hope your feeling better very soon!!!

Wow.. happy that your alright you.. That's happened to me when once before but the thing is I didn't fall and hit my head. I was walking out of the shower and all of a sudden I heard was a ringing in my ears it was SO LOUD and a flashing in my eyes that I fell over on the hamper screaming. I don't remember how I got from the bathroom to the room but my boyfriend said he carried my over and laid my on the bed trying to relax me. I woke up a few minutes later totally confused. I didn't know who I was or what I was doing or why I was there. After a few seconds he went away and my boyfriend just stood their looking at me like a weirdo. It was just a few minutes but it felt like for ever!

Holy crap! I'm so glad you're alright, Jess!

I've never had anything like that happen to me, but it sounds like you took a mighty blow. I'd go to the doctor to make sure everything is okay. In the news, not too long ago, there was a lady who got a head injury skiing and a few days later she died from cranial hemmoraging. She didn't have any symptoms.

It's always good to get your head checked after having a concussion. Next time, DON'T try to go to sleep. That's probably one of the worst things you can do with a head injury, mmk? D: You might not wake up. ;-;

I'm so glad you're ok! Welcome to the weird world of concussions. I've had five pretty serious ones, one that involved temporary blindness. I'm almost as smart as a fifth grader (ok maybe 3rd grader) so not too much harm done...LOL. The next time you get your vision checked tell your optometrist about the injury. Depending on where you hit your hear it could affect your vision long term but not usually anything too serious.

Thanks for the comments everyone! It's definitely a very weird thing to go through for the very first time.. I am feeling pretty good today for the most part, had my headache come back for a little while and I still feel a little bit fuzzy sometimes, but that's all.

I will consider going to the doctor, but I'm really not the type of person that likes to go to the hospital or anything.. lol I promise I am taking it easy though :)

That's crazy, any idea why that happened?

Yes, we didn't realize how serious it was at the time.. I had no clue what was going on, and Mike hadn't known just how bad it was yet when I tried to go lay down at first. I didn't think you were supposed to try to sleep when you have a head injury lol

Thanks :) My fiance has had quite a few of them himself, and I've been there for him through it.. I noticed that he seemed like he had dropped 20 or 30 IQ points for a few days, but was back to normal before too long lol.. It really worried me at first, and I didn't understand what was going on with him, or if he would just always be like that. Needless to say, now I understand what it's like completely, so those times with him make more sense. I'll definitely mention it the next time I see my eye doctor.

I'm glad you're okay. Did you faint and then fall or fall and hit your head? I had a weird blackout experience once like that when I was pregnant.
