Yeah, I know that buying a gecko from a chain store is a bad idea. But this little one was there for at least a month and got skinnier every time we saw it. Just so sad. And the mealworms are right down the isle where the geckos are so we HAVE to see it when we go buy feeders.

So Joe and I decided to give this little one a new home with us. Hopefully we can get it to gain weight quickly because it's only 4g right now and has a stick thin tail, you can see its hips and rib cage--bad shape. But its spunky and active so there's a really good chance it'll get much better with some proper care :D

I don't automatically think so. You can find good and bad stuff everywhere.

Regardless, good luck raising your new gecko.

Oh, all I meant by that is that some people argue "rescuing" from a chain store supports that store and allows them to bring in more sickly animals. I do believe that, to an extent, but sometimes I just can't help wanting to help just one.

Thanks Melanie :) We keep going into the pet stores determined not to get any more. But then we see one that catches our eye and Joe and I don't have it in us to convince each other not to get it lol

Definitely!

I'm debating whether we should just see if she eats on her own or start her of with some jumpstart right away to make sure she gets some calories in her..

What do you all think?

Well, I just got done with my meeting and she seems to like her new home, and I did put a tiny mealie in front of her and let her follow it for a while. So cute! I love that little bitty baby. Also, I'm working on the name now.

It's so funny every few minutes I'll see her walk from one hide to another, and lay down to sleep. Next time she wakes up I'll present her with another mealie to squirm around by her feeding dish.

Good luck with ur new baby...i recently got one from that particular pet store and it died a few days later....the poor thing had stuck shed everywhere, even a piece was stuck in its eye! but he was twice as skinny as the one in ur pic. i'm happy you rescued him/her! good luck!

Oh, I was specifically going by "buying" in what I quoted. One can get good animals from a number of sources.

Buying from a store is certainly no rescue, though. That's just a common rationalization.

THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME! mealworms and all. All the other leos are older, therefor you can understand that not everyone needs the same amount of food. The mealworms in there are way too small and not enough. The little one i got is he same, small but very active. the way i look at it, cant save them all and i know they will be replaced but at least one of them is safe. And no one w/ inexperience gets the little guy and doesnt know how/ what to do to take care of and rehabilitate. Glad to hear im not the only one w/ this urge!
