Glad to hear he/she is hunting by themselves, i got home, i let him/her gobble down. Right of the bat he ate 5 worms. I even got him to take some calcium. So hopefully he will be okay to hunt soon. i dont really consider mealworms a thrill of a hunt. haha Ill buy some smaller sized crickets soon.

Well, I just got home from my first class today and he/she has definitely eaten one of the itsy bitsy mealies, and is sleeping again. I'm trying to contain my excitement and not wake the baby which is hard as it' dark in my room and hard to find things like books and wallets. Schlee (hope you all get the reference) still keeps traveling from the warm hide to the cool hide, and left two nice lentil sized sand poop balls and I may feed schler a tiny drop of oil later to make sure that the poops are still coming. I may deceiving myself, but the tail already looks thicker. Oh, and Khrysty got schler to take a bit of jump start last night. Yay baby!

I originally bought one from there that actually looked just like that. But unfortunately no matter what I did, he just didn't gain weight. It turned out he had crypto. The bad part about "saving" animals from the chain stores is that you still purchased from them which in their minds means they don't need to change their ways. If they are still making sales with the poor quality animals then there isn't a reason to change. The best thing to do in my opinion is to not purchase them because if they don't sell then maybe the chain stores will start getting better quality animals.

Our thinking is that this little guy, if its going to make it, will make it. If it isn't, it's likely to die within the two week "warranty." If it does, we'll either get our money back, or pick up one of the healthier looking ones still at the store. At least we could say we tried for this one.

I agree with you, wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, sometimes my rational side doesn't exactly take over when I see starving babies :|

I hate when chain stores let there animals go like that it gives my chain a bad rap and I would never let that happen. Some "pet Care" people really anger me. my first leos were adopted from my store because fellow co workers were idiots. Those kind of people don't last long. I make sure of that. but my two adoptees did get me hooked. I just baught my third.

That's why I don't go into those sorts of stores anymore if I can help it. Not only am I likely to pity purchase and set up that cycle and encourage their bad husbandry (keeping them poorly means people snap them up faster and they make more sales- a stated strategy in some really bad stores), but it's just depressing to see, and I might bring home illnesses. Plus supporting them in ANY fashion, including buying feeders, is saying you're ok with their practices. I get feeders and supplies online, breed it myself, and/or local petstores that are well-run.

Good luck with the little kiddo! I would have been hard pressed not to buy him, too. Though maybe I would have made them give him to me for free after chewing them out about their husbandry... heh.

Just an update:

(In shed in the pic)

She's doing really well. She's up to 5.4 grams now. Her tail hasn't gotten any fatter, but her body sure has. She's eating on her own and just shed recently.

Great job. All Abby's leos have come from that same chain. The two people in our store are very knowledgeable on reptiles so we are lucky. Abby has picked two that look just like yours. Their beautiful.

I've got another at home, Drogo. He's just now losing his baby pattern and is turning out to be really bright. It's so exciting to watch that change! I just love patties :)
