Soooo,my newest gecko Raven seems to have a hard time catchen those crix.Is it possible that living in a tank the size of a small shoebox for 6 months screwed up his skills?Maybe even his depth perception? Every time I see him go for one he strikes and comes up short, even when they are right in front of him.Is it maybe just bad eyesight?

I don't know why but I have some geckos who have been lousy hunters from birth and others who used to be good but just can't do it anymore. Eyesight seems to be OK in all these cases.

Try holding the cricket with tweezers and slowly dragging it on the ground, that way if he strikes the cricket can't jump away, then you can work up to just giving him crickets without tweezers.

Sometimes mine misses too, falls short or jumps too much forward.

You can also try dropping mealworms near him so he can see them, this can help them get better at hunting.

Put them in the freezer for a few to slow them down, then he should be able to catch them! Might want to try dubia roach they are slow movers.

This is why genetically weak animals should be culled in my opinion... If you need to cut off cricket legs or put feeders in the fridge to slow them down so your gecko can catch its food, in my opinion, the animal should cease to exist...

Well its not like I plan on breeding them,I just wanted them for pets,to be loved and adored.I sure hope none of your children bring home bad grades and force you to "cull" out the weaker genetics.....

waxworms are good for treats thats about it, they very very fatty and can cause fatty liver disease in reptiles.
Dont worry,I knew that much and Ive only given him two-one to see if he would grab it and one in the food bowl to try to get him over to the mealies and realize it was a "food" dish.:main_thumbsup:

Ummm right........... Yeah.......

Not sure what my child or her potential grades has anything to do with not propagating weak genetics in the captive leo population... Besides, my genetics are superior... LOL

Anyway, Is your leos sight issues a result of being kept in a small cage??? No... What causes sight issues is usually weak/bad genetics...:main_robin:

My pointe was simply that jus because an animals not "up to snuff" for breeding doesnt make it worthless.I dont think we should "cull" to bring the population up to our standards. But thats just opening up a whole other can of worms on a touchy subject. And no,Raven isnt albino. My fiance said he saw him snag a few last night so maybe he just has to be really hungry....

I have noticed that some of my geckos get alittle lazy from time to time when feeding time is around. if they don't eat as much i know the next night they will be pretty hungry. I do feed on a nightly basis though. i have some geckos that will eat every night while others won't so i have a pretty messed up rotation of feeding.
