Hello

i am planning to get another gecko and before i do this i would like to offer anyone trying to get rind of their gecko a chance to give it to a good home.

Preffered:

it would be preffered if the gecko came with all the supplies as far as cage and heating
if your in florida, depending on where, it is possible to meet up to get the gecko
if you are out of state, we can do it by mail and i can probably pay the shiping fees
i will take tailess geckos no problem
will take leos or fattails

thats about it,. i will be putting up some vids of my current geckos setup if you want to see my gecko setup.Again, send me a message for more details, and pics of your geckos for adoption are welcome. Thank you guys so much again,

Sincerly,

Here in florida there are a lot of local breeders and expos all over. You can get awesome deals at the expos, especially if you are not after designer morphs. I see normals for $15 at some booths. If you are just looking for pets and not breeding, Craigslist can be a decent option too, just be sure they are healthy. I see them on Tampa Craigslist for $10 sometimes.

Please don't beg for free geckos. Especially if you don't have the resources to care for them.

You should probably stick to the gecko you have if money is that big of an issue. I have several geckos I'd like to rehome, but I am certainly not comfortable sending them to someone who can't pay for the stuff they need, or provide them with proper health care.

You need to become more financially stable before you take on more animals.

I realize this sounds harsh, but it's the truth. Every day I see people take on animals they can't afford, and it's absolutely infuriating.

ok,thanks for the advice but i can support them just fine, i mean i have money but if your getting rid of a gecko why not just give its cage and all,i really was just trying to emphasize the fact that i would prefer not to have to pay for a new one when i really wanted to get one from some one who can't or dosent want to support can give away, would't you?its like why have your own kids when you can adopt a kid and give him a better life. i can support them just fine. its not nessasary to bash me about wanting to pursue a hobby. and for ur information, if my gecko was sick i would find a vet somewhere even if it was a 4 hour drive and take him there and pay for, i was simply saying there was not a vet a mile up the road that i can just go to any old time , i would have to look for one, but i wouldnt ask for more if i couldn't support it,i take very good care of my money and make it last, but im sorry im not rich, i mean do you just want someone to give you a gecko and then say "oh yeah by the way he needs $200 bucks in vet bills" im pretty sure you don't like paying vet bills. Once again i apologize for trying to help someone out who just wanted to see their gecko go to a good home. "Every day I see people take on animals they can't afford, and it's absolutely infuriating" really?, i joined a forum just so i could make shure i have everything right and am staying out of school to get a better job to make more money for more geckos other reptiles, i have spent three months spending the entire day reading books and forums and videos making shure i new what i was doing before i even got my gecko, and have spent most of my days since talking to experienced people ON THIS WEBSITE about them just to learn more a get every scrape of knowledge i can. i hate know it alls like you who just want to down grade and discourage every one instead of encourging or just keeping your opinon to yourself. i really like this forum because i thought every one was nice and just wanted to help but i guess i was wrong!

I am certainly not bashing you for your hobby. My suggestion to you is to enjoy what you have, and when resources permit, get another one.

As far as a vet goes. Part of my job involves people that adopt ALL kinds of animals, out of the goodness of their own heart, but don't realize until the last minute, that EVERY animal will at some point require some health care, which unfortunately does cost money. Do I like paying vet bills? No. Am I rich? Haha absolutely not. But I do pay them, because my animals are my responsibility. I am lucky enough to have a great vet nearby. I'm sure you have one within a drivable distance. Is it a pain to find one and drive to it? Of course. But do you really want to be scrambling for one at the last minute?

You can hate me. It doesn't bother me. I said I realize I am being harsh. I just don't want you ending up with all these animals with no "backup" financial resources if something were to go south.

well first off i appolgize, i dont hate you i was just mad, 2. i just found a vet about an hour away that does reptiles so thats covered, 3.yes i do realize they will require a vet at some time, as my mom is a lab breeder so im not new to what having a lot of animals requires. i do have an emergency fund just for my reptiles, id rather not discuse how much but it is in the three figure range,so that is also coverd and a portion of any money i make goes toward that (even if its only five bucks). Once again i apologize, and ur concern is is appreciated

Excellent job with finding a vet. I apologise as well. I reacted to you like I sometimes react to those "crazy cat people" that come into my clinic all the time. It was quite mean sounding. I just re-read it a bunch of times.

Listen, this website is an awesome information resource. I encourage you to keep reading and asking questions here. So let's you and I start over. If you have any questions, especially health related ones, feel free to ask. I'm always around. :)

Alrighty, i live in palmetto/ellenton(central Florida). I have no leos to give out, but i do have a snake. I took in a Sandboa a few months back. Unfortunately, i really havnt connected to her. I can part with her, her tank and stuff in it, as well as her heat matt, and possibly whatever feeders i have for her at the time of hand off. I cannot part with the thermometer though(too hard to find those around here).

Shes a female kenyan sandboa, she has a bit of a disposition to handling but doesnt mind once shes in your hand. She eats 1-2 times a week. Currently, shes 17" and in a 10gal tank. Its very possible that she will not grow much more due to stunting. When i got her she was in bad shape, sand, no heat, dirty as crap tank. Since ive had her she hasnt shed once. So yes, shes a rescue. If you have the means to feed her and care for her then she is yours, but expect to be drilled.

being 16 and living in the same area, i can tell you its hell trying to find work. Ive applied everywhere. Currently looking into a job as a vet assistant at a local vet office through my Vet assist classes at school.

if anyone here has an oppositions to my doing or saying this, by all means PM me, we can discuss it. Just want to keep this thread clean of any of that.

Well i live in titusville, as far as the boa, i would have to talk to my mom cause we have a baby in the house and she is on of those people that thinks the boa will get out and the first thing it is going to do is eat the baby cause boas are just known for that. But if she says yes , i would be able to in about a week cause i would want to buy a few rats to breed so i dont have to pay for mice all the time. but i will talk to her and let you know, feel free to send some pics, and i can assure you she would be in good hands as i have had snakes in the past.

Everything else you wrote contradicts that. Do you have the slightest idea what a sand boa is?

I enjoy the luxury of not giving a damn about your feelings. You're clearly, without question, not in a place where you should be taking in more or new animals. Your approach to finances is dangerously ignorant, your desire to obtain everything for free is willfully greedy and you have not said or done anything to suggest that you'd be capable of providing appropriate care.

You haven't got the money.
You haven't got the experience.
You haven't even got knowledge gained from third party learning.

With no offense aimed at Sam; it's an absolutely terrible idea for anyone to provide you with an animal given everything you have shown to be the case about your situation.

Feel free to chuck another self-absorbed little tantrum post in here decrying everyone as big meanies- I actually am one, when I feel it is justified- because that, more than anything else, proves that you're not willing to put the animals' needs before your own. An intelligent person acknowledges their own capabilities, including their limitations, and behaves accordingly. The responsibilities of pet ownership are a hell of a lot more important than your impulses and desires, and infinitely more important than your bruised feelings at being told "No." You are more and more clearly not capable of meeting the responsibilities of pet adoption, you should stop panhandling for geckos.

as i said before, im not rying to get free geckos, for one im about to take a sand boa from this guy just cause id like to take care of it. i have money, i would rather adopt than get a new one just cause i would like that, and the only reason i stressed having little money was because i didn't want every one thinking i was just a guy too greedy to pay for them and was just panning for free stuff. i don't understand why im getting so much crap bout this anyways, im just trying to do what any other animal adoption center would do, i might just be able to dedicate more time to them being home all the time. yes my lieing about not having money was obviously wrong and i apologize to everyone, but im a little confused. i mean you have to start somewhere, dont you? i dont think you just started with a million reptiles and all the knowledge in the world, but i am making an effort and with time comes experience. And two i am thinking about the animal, i mean the whole reason im doing this is because i love animals and want to give them a good home, which i can provide. I have PLENTY of money and PLENTY of time for the reptile. Yes, i lied so you people wounld't think i was panning but obviously that didnt help, i apologize, im sorry.
