Secret Animals

I didn't really know where to post this, but I thought it would be a funny topic. Has anyone ever hid any animals from a parent/ husband / wife / landlord? I hid two fairly large rubbermaids in my closet both housing tarantualas. My mom was cleaning one day, and saw these two bins and went in the first one, I hear a blood curdling scream. She was not too impressed but let me keep them. So please share any similiar stories:)

The closest I can come is having some "secret" madagascar hissing cockroaches that I got for free to feed my bearded dragon. I put a few of the smaller ones in the crested gecko enclosure and the next day my son pointed something out on the rug and said "there's a beetle". I didn't correct him. I didn't tell anyone in the family what I had until they were all gone.

my landlord doesn't know about my leo, but i am not too worried. he said we were allowed to have fish, and if he questions me on it, i will just argue that an aquarium for fish is no different than an aquarium for a leo, plus there's no chance of water leaking.

spiders were enough for my mom, if I tried to get roaches I think she'd go crazy

Snakes...lol! Hid several in my closet. A big female rat snake once, a ball python...my dad hates snakes. Also hid spiders from my mom when I lived there.

Long story...
When I was in high school I really wanted a cat. My parents said the only way we would get another cat was if one was left on the doorstep with a note tied around its neck saying "please take care of me."
WELL!!!!!
My best friend had a neighbor with kittens. I picked one out, we walked it from her house which was in the next town over to my house via the woods, and dropped it on the back porch (it was enclosed so no worries about escape) including the appropriate note. It wasn't until I was out of college that I told my parents about it. For the longest time they thought it was the crazy cat people that lived about a half mile away. Even after all those years they were still ticked when I told them how we got her.

while i grew up with snakes at my fathers house, my mom was always afraid of all those stories of people getting attacked by their pet snakes. so i wasnt aloud to have them. i was aloud to have fish, and i had plenty of tanks. when my fish died i started turning the fish tanks into elaberate set ups for snakes. i ended up have 4 snakes befor my mom knew i even had one

My parents are actually pretty leniant, they just hate having all these tanks cluttering my room, my mom and dad are neat freaks and have to have everything in perfect order so its hard sometimes. The rat idea is a good one!

I hid a kitten in my room one summer and it was for about a month, but my parents said to keep it as an outside cat and someone stole him, which sucked.

My parents never really cared, they got most of the animals we've had over the years and I might not have liked reptiles if my dad didn't get me a turtle when I was five. But as for recent years, they still don't really care what I get. My mother's rules (seeing as how it is her house after all) are that I know how to take care of whatever I get, that I'm the one caring for it (she does do me favors with my geckos sometimes though, like changing their water if I'm not home, checking the temps for me, etc.), and no snakes. Which sucks because I'd love to have one, but it's not too big a deal when I can get whatever lizard, turtle, etc. I want.

The closest thing I've had to a "secret" animal was when my dad brought home two ferrets we adopted and she hated them at first. Was scared to death of them and insisted she'd never like them. Fast forward a few months and one of them is basically hers, sleeping in her lap and always following her around.

When my husband left for Houstan for 4 months of temporary work, I ended up with his ball python. My poor mother who's pushing 70 is has a serious phobia of snakes...she had a bad experiance with a large rat snake many, many years ago and that was it. Geckos are cute, snakes are evil according to her.

So for 4 months she'd come over, and sometimes just randomly start cleaning my house...and i'd run around frantically trying to figure out what to do with this thing, so I don't give my mother a heart attack or an anyurism or something...so I covered it with towels and put it on a high shelf...and one day I walked into my room to find her with a corner of one of the towels lifted up, to which she responded..."WHAT THE H*LL IS THAT?"...that was back in September...and she refuses to come back.

I've hid the purchase until they were safe an snug in their own home then I let them slowly in on the deal LOL, I know I'm so horrible. I'm slightly afraid of this next one because it's the most i've ever spent on one, I gulp for my safety. LOL j/k I just don't like my parents to be dissapointed in me.

My parents never come in my room, I hid my first gecko for 2 years. Ok I didn't hide it she just never knew.. until she started seeing food for it. Ah.. and I snuck in a fish tank and fish and she didnt find out for about a month.. My mom still doesn't want any of these.. as long as I'm not ruining her house.. she doesnt care.

But I have also came home with 2 dogs, and 2 orphan kittens. And she promptly said no take them somewhere else.. She still hates them and wants them gone! But their mine.. and she can't take them away.

Good thing I'm not into snakes.. I think my mother would freak.. btw.. she said I couldn't have another gecko... so I figured.. well... I'll just get a bigger tank and put them both in their no harm done.. :D

I'm a little brat I know this.. hehe.

I'm 51, my parents have been with me now for 10 months and they still don't know I have 7 leos and 5 more coming in the spring. Funny how you stay a child no matter how old you are. Mom reminds me that I will always be a child until her and dad are gone. Manipulation?

so when my parents got divorced my mother said we could get 2 kittens..few months later she went in my room and found 2 more *rolls eyes* we now have 6 cats at her house and a dog.
a cat at my dads that i hid from him for 3 months (he had a cow but now lets the furry thing sleep on him).
i hid rats from my father and mother for a few years.
when i was younger i was forever getting caught with snakes, lizards, turtles, spiders, bugs, and once a baby rabbit that i would bring in from the field behind our house. (i got to keep a turtle, the rabbit, some of the bugs, and a spider out of all the dozens of them)
when my father finally agreed to letting me get a guinea pig i decided that i wanted more..i had 4 of them before he noticed...and then 2 months later chewy had 2 babies :)
i bred rats at my moms and mice for a couple months before she found out.
geckos..well.....my parents think i have one :) when in fact i have 2 and just 5minutes ago got 2 more :) :)
had fire belliedtoads and that went from one to 6 in a matter of days..my mother still hasnt found out about those, course they are gone now...
i hide almost all my pets from my parents lol and when they find out..well they deal lol
