One thing I was thinking about (even though sadly I'm not involved in this this year...) is the people that are going to give a gecko as a gift. If people are not getting their person until the 13th (or whatever it is) that leaves 2 weeks until Christmas...a VERY DANGEROUS time to ship.

I'm wondering if people are going to wait until it's warmer, and the mail is less chaotic? I have heard horror stories of people shipping geckos close to Christmas, never ending well.

If this is the case, I'll join in...I'll be producing some worthy geckos this year...I just don't have any now!

Some people feel comfortable shipping in the cold with heat packs. Most people who are sending geckos are eexperienced and know to check the weather in the area they are sending the geckos to. I've also had people request to be with someone in the same state so they can drive to give the person the gecko which also works. A lot of people are taking the gift certificate route saying they will send what ever gecko the person wants when the time is right to ship. Last year I also had people tell me to tell the person who was getting the gecko that they were getting one, but they had to wait until it warmed up. And some people emailed their person with a picture of their gecko present and said they would ship when it warmed up.

Ok, thanks for touching on that Mal (or Matt :)) I just know how crazy the post office gets this time of year and I would HATE to see any live shipments misdirected, or even lost.

Ya'll got me thinking about joining...lol

I was planning on checking the weather and location of the person I get, and seeing if the gecko would be safe to ship before Christmas. However, I have just recently read that many breeders don't like to ship close to Christmas due to increased chances of having problems with shipment. So now we've decided that we will probably be sending a card or something stating that a gecko will be sent, just not until after the holidays.

Hey a gecko is always worth waiting for. Getting a picture of your baby is a great idea. I have never shipped before so I will be a nervous wreck and will probably be asking a million and one questions if the person I get wants one of my babies and is too far away to drive to deliver.

I think as soon as you know who's name you get, you can send out what you'd like. If you need to arrange a special shipping date based on the weather, like for worms or a gecko, then you'll need to PM Mallorie so that she can do that with the person you are sending to.

All I have to send is like 100-200 mealies tops. Im trying to start my colony but my worms arent big enough to send yet so i have to make do with part of the 1000 i got shippedcuz i still need to feed my 6 leos lol so i wont be sending out that many mealies im sure 500 would be fine ;)

Thats how mine came but i can't find the bag....do you think it will be ok to re-use the containers i saved from when i bought supers/mealies at ********? you know the armstrong cricket farm mealie/supers containers? I have my own gutload to use(an oatmeal mix ^__^) but the containers....would it be suitable to use them and just put them in the box with the other stuff with newspaper around/between all of it?
