I am was waiting for four new leos to come today, 2 came Fedex this morning (before 10:30) and the other two DID NOT. I paid for overnight shipping, the seller of these never told me if it was ups or fex ex.. He offered a tracking number but then never gave it to me. So it is 5:50 in PA now and I was wondering what is the latest they could arrive? For those of you that have animals shipped.... did they ever arrive late??

myself I would be talking to the breeder you bought them from and ask him what the H--- is going on first off he should have given you tracking info and if all 4 were sent last night and you only got 2 today the others will be extremly stressed and it may affect there health.I really don't think someone would send 2 fed-ex and the other 2 another way it just don't seem feesable.

I've never received a gecko late or had one arrive late. You should call the seller ASAP and get the tracking number and find out where it is. It is possible the gecko is sitting in either the UPS or FedEx warehouse or at someone else's house.

Best of luck,

Kyle

The 1st set of 2 were from a different seller . . . (sorry this wasnt clear in the first thread.. I'm a LITTLE upset  to say the least!!) About the other seller.. I dont have his phone # and have already tried to contact him several times today via online with no response~ which is why I have resorted to this post... I dont know what to do and I am so concerned for them b/c they hatched ONLY a few weeks ago!! He assured me they would be fine.. :main_thumbsdown:

I hope they get to you in good shape. That's exactly why it's important to find out what a sellers guarantees and shipping policies are before you buy. Personally, I wouldn't ship a gecko that's only a few weeks old just in case anything did happen. There's really not anything you can do at this point but hope the seller returns your email or calls. I wish you the best!

well that makes a differance, they might not even have been shipped yet. Not being nibby but how did you pay for them pay-pal, check,m.o. reason I'm asking is if it was pay-pal and he don't ship them contact pay-pal they may be able to help. One other thing you say they are only a few weeks old most breeders will tell you not to ship till they are 20grams in weight so that they are already eating good and can go a few days without eating getting used to new home.

He is not holding them, he was actually supposed to ship last Friday- and claimed not to have my information (when I payed with my paypal account ~ can you say verified address) So... he apologized and we made new arrangements. He was SUPPOSED to ship Tues. (yesterday) for today (Wed.) Last night when I checked up he said that he did ship them. It was supposed to be overnight and its 8pm they arent here... took off from work (without pay) and wont be home to sign tomorrow ... I am so worried about where they are and if they are okay I feel nauseous.. :main_angry:

I wouldn't suggest that you post anything until the issue is resolved but have you checked to see if there are any inquiries about the seller on Fauna's BOI?
If a seller has a past of screwing people over it can generally be found there. If you don't come up with anything, maybe it was a misunderstanding. I hope you find something out soon!

I just noticed that you said he was originally supposed to ship last Friday. That's weird because FedEx and UPS both charge ridiculous amounts for Saturday delivery. It probably would have been over $100 for shipping if Saturday delivery was even available.

UPS ships to a resident address until 7pm. But you definitely need to contact the breeder. They could be lost or possibly not sent at all.

Like Mel said, it's very odd that he was going to sihp on Friday, as usually prices are sky high. Plus you run the risk of the package getting lost over the weekend when no one will be able to find it until Monday, and since this past Friday, Monday was a holiday, which means that no one would have been able to start looking until Tuesday.

They arrived today in the mail.. usps.. in a box marked FRAGILE!!! :main_angry: there was no "this side up" no "LIVE animal" markings what so ever.. is it legal to send live animals in a box in the mail???? Not to mention he charged me $30 for OVERNIGHT and paid $4 at the post office... they are so shaken up not to mention they are about 2 weeks old.. I am so discusted... I hope they pull through this stress b/c they sure are thin...(and pissed off too) I think its a teenager b/c the print on the box appears child like. THe sad part is they have 10 more babies they are selling and I wonder how they treat them and not to mention the breeders... :main_thumbsdown: Isn't that animal cruelty??????????

There are different schools of thought on how to mark boxes. Some folks feel that if you put "live" on there they get treated worse or, some shipping methods do not accept geckos and this is how folks "get by." Here's how I mark mine:

Shipping is really complex to say the least.

To answer your question, yes, it is legal to send geckos in the USPS. I don't because so often they don't guarantee overnight shipping. I seriously doubt that your breeder could have paid $4 for Express Mail, which is probably how he sent them. You can find out how much he paid, it should say on the top of the box where the postage is marked.

If you send geckos anywhere using any method, FEDEX, UPS, USPS, they will get shaken. You pack them anticipating that. I have had very few problems using UPS for my shipping, geckos arrived slightly POed and need some time to adjust, but other than that they are no worse for the wear.

The fact that you have all these questions and concerns implies that your breeder was not very professional in explaining the details involved with shipping to you, either by website, phone or e-mail.

No-one in their right mind would ship a gecko on a Friday as 1)If they get stuck they will be waiting until Monday for any sort of intervention to the process, and 2)It would cost a small fortune!

I received 2 geckos on Wed. that had marking warning LIVE HARMLESS LIZARD and they were fine.. boxed up very nicely... (from a separate seller) And sorry for the misunderstanding but the seller in question was supposed to ship them out Thurs. for them to arrive Friday.. I was very upset and didn't word that correctly. The sticker reads $4.80.. and he shipped them out on 5-27 they arrived 5-29 sideways in my mailbox with my bills!!!??! I understand there is no perfect way to ship them.. but atleast a "this side up" warning would have reassured me a little. :main_yes: Thank you for spending the time to write all those details, and just so you know.. his response when I asked his age was..
"18" although I don't exactly believe it.

The $4.80 indicates he sent them Priority mail which is a 2-3 day service on average. There are no guarantees on arrival time using that service. I'd say he is extremely unethical or uneducated or both for sending geckos that way - they should only be shipped with an overnight service. :inquisitive: He made about $20.00 profit on a $30.00 shipping charge if you allow him $5 for his insulated box and nothing else (gas, labor).

It is not surprising the geckos were delivered in the manner you explain, I have UPS guys who should know better deliver them upside down in boxes marked "this side up." In the future you can always request to pick up your geckos at the local UPS counter, same with your local post office. This saves them a trip with another dodo :main_rolleyes: to your house. I would only recommend postal if they can deliver overnight, to do this the Express Mail option must be used and even then overnight is not guaranteed that often using this service.

Hope that helps. Any breeder worth their salt should have covered this process with you so you were not left to wonder. Expect more competence in the future and you'll be a lot happier, not to mention your geckos! :D

I agree with Gecko Ranch. Sounds like he chose Prioriry mail. I wouldn't buy from him again. Stick with people that ship overnight UPS or FedEx. USPS isn't the best way to ship, as their shipping time is not gauranteed.

Usually the box will say "This side up" with an arrow on all sides of the box.

This guy made a huge profit on your expense. :-\

I agree with Julie, and Whitney. I can understand why you are so upset - I would be FLAMING TICKED if I received geckos in this manner. :main_angry:

You might want to try and talk to this seller about this, maybe help educate him or her, and request a refund of part of your shipping.

Thank GOODNESS those geckos arrived safely - it was over 100 degrees in many parts of the country this week. If they'd have had to sit in that mailbox in that.........:main_no:

Did you purchase these little geckos from a GeckoForums.net member? If so, could you please PM me and let me know who it was so we can either talk to him/her about the correct way to ship a gecko, and/or put them on our "DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH" list?

Yes, I would also like to know who this person is, so I can make sure not to get geckos in this manner. It discuses me, how some people can be so irresponsible with living creatures, should shove him in a box and let him sit in it for a few days, in 100 degree whether. That would teach him.

With as many threads as there have been on here about how to ship there's really no excuse for this type of dealing. To charge to overnight shipping and then to spent $4.80 on shipping with no tracking or guaranteed delivery date is not only sad but despicable. Hopefully the seller will learn a lesson from this.

Kelly, was the box insulated at least?

I wondered if he used an insulated box too. :main_rolleyes:
