Did he use a priority box, about 7x7x6? If so, he got it FREE from USPS. Which would also mean he owes you MORE on a refund, since he didn't even pay for the box. :main_no:

This is a horrible shipping story and I'm so very sorry you had to go through this. I had one gecko shipped to me and there were some complications in a totally different state, making him a day late and it was just horrible. I honestly can't believe that someone would do that, there is a reason that shipping costs are expensive - to safely get the animal to it's destination!! I really hope that you have talked to this seller and made sure that they learned something from this incident (and I highly doubt the person was 18 also).. At least your babies are safe and okay. Please keep us updated on their health (and post pics!)

The seller was "out of styrofoam boxes" so he sent them in just a white red and blue usps box (the size of a vhs tape) with the 2 geckos together in one container (atleast this had holes in it!!) and there were 2 pieces of newspaper wedged inside between the box sides and container. So there was some thought put into this but VERY VERY little :main_thumbsdown: Luckily on Thurs. while I had to work a double shift until midnight.. my Mom had off and was waiting for them.. so she took them out of the mailbox as soon as the mailman came.. and she carefully opened it and put them in their home. (I was on the phone and she was compforting them with her voice, then I hear her say to herself "I can't believe I'm talking to a frigin lizard!!" lol she's not a reptile person) They seem to be okay THANK GOD I even got to hold one (he is very calm the other is such a skitz) I am just glad they arrived ok I couldnt even sleep.. I kept thinking I would open the box and they wouldn't be alive :main_no: Believe me I told him off about how to treat live animals and how to ship with more caution... its not hard to slap a sticker on a box so that they don't get tossed around like 2 Christmas ornaments in bubble wrap. Sorry for the book

OMG, in the mailbox? Once you think you've heard it all... That's horrific. Oh, and I'm glad you utilized our trader rating system. That's exactly why it's here!

This says it all...:main_rolleyes: man! I know what box that is. That is horrendous. It is a miracle the geckos were alive on top of two day transport time.

OMG... how irresponsible and apalling! I'm speechless with anger and disgust. I'm so glad the little geckos are safe!!!

Thank you all for being supportive during this crazyness.. its good to see so many replies.. it makes me feel much better since some people think of me (and I guess US) of being crazy for caring so much for a little critter. They are doing well but may have to be separated. The larger of the two has been eating since yesterday.. I held him again today (he even left a present on my arm, can you guess what it was..) but I am not so sure about the tiny one (he is the jumpy one.. I may name him "Spook" since he gets frazzled so easily.. We will see.. and I took some awesome pictures I will try and post tomorrow.. (If not def. by Wed.) thanks again everyone :D

Yes I thank you very much as well. Not only does this help protect other buyers from the trouble you had to go through, such as the stress that I know you must have felt (I know I was stressed when I had geckos stuck in transit, and it took them two days to be delivered, and they where packed properly. Luckily they where all alive as well). It also and most importantly could save lives of geckos in the future. And that trader rating system and this post is really the best way to give a voice to those geckos, as well as the other gecko, that sadly might ship the same way. Let just hope he learned he lesson this time.

What out for the sand... That gecko is a little small to be housed on it.

But she looks good for what she's gone through.

Thank you! The sand is mixed with peat moss but not very much. Their food dish is very high and clear so they won't eat any sand (or shouldn't) unless there are crickets. They have had them once and they both eat mealies (the "dish" is actually a cricker keeper tube cap that is spare) I'll change it now to be safe :main_yes: (the peat moss is not treated)

Healthy youngsters are nice and hungry due to their need to keep up with their high metabolism at that age. No need to get them into any dependent habits with tong feeding. Save the tongs for snakes! ;)

I sent someone here a pm about a leopard they had for sale. It sounded good untill they wanted to ship USPS. I have not responded to them since.

I would not write them off as being neglectful of their options until I knew more about their situation. Some folks have to use USPS due to an unavailability problem with UPS either because of location or cost. If it is an older gecko, a two day ship will be ok in the right weather and packing (we have learned here not how to do it!). Some of my Alaskan customers would not have geckos from me if it were not for USPS, because UPS would not get the geckos there as quickly and they are always astronomical in price to ship up there whereas USPS is reasonable to ship there. Of course you would like to choose the fastest option with overnight, sometimes that option is not available.

I don't know how hobbyists ship these days not using USPS as I pay a big chunk of change pre-paying my UPS labels 25 labels at a time to charge the $46.50 rate I charge for overnight and I have a long term account with them. I don't know the FEDEX deal, maybe it is affordable with occasional shippers?

I havent checked this in a while.. about the tongs.. I think they like to be spoiled.. call me crazy... One girl will take ea. worm I drop in front of her and the other waits for the tongs.. I call her my snow baby she just peeks her head out of her little hole and waits.... looking at me. :) and the usps issue.. as long as the box is marked I would have no problem. This said only "FRAGILE" (stamped not stickered - it must have been pleasant to be in the box when they did that) no "THIS SIDE UP" or "LIVE" harmless stickers. I was so upset because the shipper was sooo careless. Had the box been labeled I would still have been upset since I was misled.. but atleast the seller would have taken proper precautions to ensure the safety and health of the animals. :main_rolleyes: .. that was a mouthful..
