My buddy and I split an order of 5,000 Superworms.... he got 2,500 and I got 2,500. Well they were delivered to his house, and he came over to drop my 1/2 of them off to me. I put the 2,500 Superworms into a new big plastic tub that i just picked up today to house the Supers in... Well, i forgot to drill holes into the lid of it... So after i dumped all the Superworms into the tub, I covered it with the lid, and him and I ran out for the day to do some stuff and run some errands and all that. When I got back home, I went to go and grab a few out to feed to some geckos, and what happened...?!?! They all died because they were suffocated and had no air. So now I have 2,500 dead Superworms, because I was in a rush, and forgot to put holes in the lid of the container. Now i have no food for my geckos, and need to place ANOTHER order, within 1 week of each other. And of course, my buddy thinks it's the funniest thing in the world....

Oh no! That must be an awful stench!

Sometimes when I run out unexpectedly, my local pet store will give me a great deal on feeders if I buy in bulk. Maybe you could ask them for a deal if you need something to hold you over for the time being.

SOmeone once was offering free superworms on craigslist. When I came to pick them up, it turned out he had refrigerated them. I took them anyway and they were all dead, so all I got out of the deal were 5 nice containers.

That sounds a bit odd to me... One afternoon without holes in a container would not generaly kill super worms... They have book lungs and require very little oxygen to live... There could be more to the situation... Were the brand new tubs cleaned??? There could have been roach killing chemicals in the tub especially if it was bought in a department store...

when i only had 4 geckos, i brought about 50 lg crickets home from work( i work at a pet store) in a plastic baggie. totally forgot about them in my purse/bag thing and left them for about 3 hours... came back and laid on the floor doing homework and saw a cricket. caught it and threw it in the cage. didnt think anything bout it. then another one. and another. !!! then i remembered the bag in the bag.. opened it and about 30 of them were jumping everywhere, in the bag around the bed and the room. it was like cricket corraling. fun stuff. freaked my sisters out!!

ya i killed about 500 mealies too.. not fun, realy bad smell and no worms for a week.

I was going to say the same thing Gregg. sounds a bit fishy. They should have been fine for a day or even two with no hose in the lid probably longer those containers are not are tight. some thing else is going on.

Well it was one of those big huge "Glad" containers. I don't know, but it was brand new... and not that deep, so with all the worms in there, and the balled up paper towels i put in to give them added "floor/crawl space", didn't leave much room inside once the lid was on. I just didn't think about it at the time when i was throwing them in real fast... My only objective was to hurry up, cuz my buddy was waitin in the car cuz we were heading out. The reason why i had to throw them in there real fast was because he transported them to my house in his Madagascar Hissing roach tub, so he needed it back. The worms weren't in the deep ones like i think you are thinking of. And the reason why i am getting new tubs for my superworms is cuz the one that i had them in has been turned into a breeders tub for another friend of mine.
