So on a scale of 1-10..how bad is it..

How bad is it that I'm spending a portion of my student loan on my geckos?

I actually know how u feel. My brother had to pay $60,000 for student loans after he graduated..

But...

Want vs. Need. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT.

Settle for what you need never go for what you want, or else it going to be a bumpy ride.

You can try to get creative and earn those few hundred bucks....or even try to get a job....fundraisers...anything is possible.
If you want the gecko that bad..(which I know u do) it won't be hard for you to find a way to earn the money for it.

I know its such a tempting decision, since HELLO GECKOS! But... think about the effects after u do decide to purchase your goods...
What if you were in deeper debt....then you'd have no money 2 feed n take care of those geckos.. and the cycle starts all over again.

Your the only 1 who can determine your destiny, so you call the shots... were just here to guide u...

I never had a student loan (Managed 6 years out of pocket on my own), however I did have an issue with bicycle racing (you want a hole in the ground into which you throw $, thats a big one.) Mind you, I was good enough to pay for some of the race weekends with the winnings.

As for Geckos, if its a short term thing, no, not worth it, but if you plan on hanging onto the critter for a long time, yeah, go for it. I've been out on my own living for the most part alone since the mid '90s and just in the last month have I had a pet, and you know what? My two geckos make my day when I get up and see them for a little while in the morning before I head off to work. No they aren't like a cat or a dog who will wait for you to come home, but I do enjoy spending the time to feed them every night.

Its up to you,

Will

I voted not bad at all because I always spend just a few hundred of my refund on something for me. That's of course after I pay for school completely and I usually pay all my bills a few months in advance.

I wouldn't use it unless you had to. Repaying the loan in 3-6 years may sound like a long way away, but that few hundred you spent here or there will make a difference.

I put all my extra student loan money in a money market account to earn more interest so that I have a few more bucks to pay when my loan is due. I also add to the account when I can. I want to be able to start paying back when I do have to pay

I have had to use a few bucks here or there in unexpected bills when i didnt want to pull from regular savings, and I have to pay one semester out of pocket a year bc my loan only covers 4 of the 5 (I go summer semester).

I try not to spend unless I have to, not even a few hundred out of a few thousand.
