i chose, works side by side with me and complains just a little. When I first was doing my research to get a leo he was hesitant, said I shouldn't waste the money. then he saw my little darling stalk and eat a cricket. he couldn't help but love her:D Now he has a beardie (rescue). I did buy another leo behind his back and he didn't like that. I really want a crested but he really wont let me. he says i have no room and should save my money (we are both in school and pretty broke). Thats the "complains a little" part, just no more animals!

I chose "doesn't care as long as it makes me happy" because that's pretty much what he says. Its so funny to go to reptile shows and have the vendors look at him like he's going to want to buy something while I'm the one practically bouncing through the ceiling because "oh wow its a (insert just about any reptile here)!". He's so shy too, doesn't want to ask what something is so I have to speak up for him.
The "complains a little" vote is because hide (the gecko's name, and its supposed to be lower case like that ;)) likes to poo on him :devilish:

My hubby doesn't mind my hobby but wants to go slow in accumulating these guys where i would go buy many all at once if i could lol. He enjoys them but does nothing in regards to them when it comes to feeding and cleaning etc. He does like to hold them and watch them. He says he will get me a rack but I tried to explain it's cheaper to build one so I am doin that, again alone, and not going well lol but not giving up. I love these lil leos and want many more and I know he will eventually get me the ones I want just at a slower pace then i can almost tolerate lol..Sometimes I'm so impatient :p

It is a weird situation between me and Rusty(Ratman667). Before I started dating him, I had never even heard of leos. He had three and a couple of other reptiles. I really liked reptiles, but I just didnt have any. I was the one that took us to our first show (He didnt know about them much and neither did I). I got a water dragon at the first show because I still wasnt into leos... the leos were his thing.
At the second show in Tampa, I picked up two and all the supplies for them.
Now I have twelve with three more on the way and he has six... I think I went a little overboard into his hobby...

My girlfriend was afraid of my snakes in the beginning, but she eventually warmed up to them. She decided that she wanted Beardies for her birthday in September, so I got her two, a Leo and a Boa soon followed. :D I do all the work, she is creeped out by the bugs and doesn't like cleaning poo, but she generally doesn't complain too much. I'm still working on getting her to understand why those expensive geckos/snakes/frogs from the breeders are better than the ones at the chain stores, but we've made a lot of progress.

I voted for side-by-side and other.

My Fiancee will help me out almost everytime for cleaning and feeding. Some of the geckos she will not handle, but even I am bad for not wanting to handle those ones either, but have to to get them use to being handled.

As for other, she complains when I say that I would like to start a new species or if I am looking into purchasing some thing for them, saying mainly "Why do that, why don't you save your money and pay off your student debt." But she is bad for finding an albino or snow that she loves and wants to purchase for me or herself.

Almost any lizard is fine, but no snakes. I am working on that as we speak, lol. Darn fear her Grandma gave her.

I put we work side by side. :)I was interested in leos because it allowed me to put my Biology major to good use and he likes them from an artist perspective. I mostly mess with the feeders because it doesn't bother me, but he hates getting his hands dirty lol!! I was the girl collecting earthworms on the walk home from the bus stop to show my mom, who wasn't nearly as excited about it as I was haha! ( i found one that was a foot long once, i thought it was a snake at first) We make a pretty good team because we each have our preferences on what to do and they just happen to be different so it works!

My missus complains a little, about how im allways going on about them, or how ojo is allways out now, but she was a little scared of the snakes to start with, but again soon warmed up too them when i put her handbag in with my pythons HA!
She doesn't mind now, she was hesitant at first sleeping in the same room as all of them (my bedroom they are ALL in here with me and my room is SMALL lol!)
but she doesn't mind now, so its all good!.

Im not sure how a normal girl would take to seeing all the reptiles i have haha.

My wife complains some days of the week and then other days she supports me. She funny like that, but sometime it makes me crazy. She says I spend more time and money on them than I do on her and my daughter which is probably true but they where here first haha. No but I do give them time too.

so glad this poll came about!! It's sooo nice to see that theres soooo many women here :)

I clicked I am a woman, and my bf doesn't care as long as it makes me happy...

He definitely doesn't work side by side with me, he jus says "they are neat" LOL
If I"m busy with the reptiles he gets more game time so its a win win situation :)

I'm the female part of our relationship (Natashya); my hubby and I both love our geckos, a great deal, and work side by side daily with them. It is actually an interesting situation with how we got involved in breeding, when we met he had one Leopard Gecko (Tecal) who is now 9 years old; and since then it's been me that got really interested in the breeding. And he's a real trouper, and was all for it. LoL. He laughs now that he spoils me, and that he's a happy guy because he doesn't have to buy me diamonds or clothes to make me happy, oh no; he has to buy me Leopard Geckos. :p Hehehe.

I'm a women and my boyfriend has a few different opinions on them.
He is very supportive and helps me make some decisions that I have a hard time with.
After all, it was him that got me into lizards in the first place.

He is happy that I'm happy, and he would love to hold the new gecko/watch it/feed it when it is time that it arrives. He would never clean or really take care of a gecko if he really, REALLY had to.
Hes fine with them, but when taking care of them interferes with my mood/our time together, that is when he would complain.

Buuut, its hard to tell now because I don't have a gecko yet....I'm really hoping he will fall in love with it! :D

My wife complained more when I bred snakes and she really flipped when a snake or a big rat got loose. But it was funny to see the look on her face when a big rat wobbled across the livingroom floor. now I only hear are you gonna spend all day in there and why do you need more geckos

My wife is just into herps as I am now. When I first got my first corn snake years ago she didn't want me to get it, then about 2 days later it was her baby. Now when we go to shows I'll go one way, she goes the other, and we'll usually meet up later both holding a new herp, lol. And she's really into the geckos too, I actually bought the cresties for her. And she picked the 2 Tangerine Albino African Fat Tails we're having delivered next week.

I'll have the second this one. My boyfriend is very supportive and definitely helps me make buying decisions. But, like you said, he's not going to help clean. I have had him over to help and he just sits and watches. He held the tub one time and let me actually clean it. I told him that didn't count as helping bc it was taking longer doing it that way versus me do it by myself, using the floor to hold the tub.

My bf wishes I had fewer on the only factor of it takes so much time cleaning and feeding, which stresses me out sometimes. That bothers him, but because I manage to get it all done during the week after work, it doesn't really affect our time on the weekends. He asked me to re-work my reptile schedule long ago to accommodate that. Ha.

Sometimes he gets me into trouble because I will ask if he thinks I should get a certain snake or tortoise, and he'll be like "sure because it'll make you happy, and it looks cool." So, I buy it, but in reality, I want him to say "no, not right now."

My SO is pretty good about my reptiles. He likes them alright. Not his ideal pet. His ideal pet is no pet. He won't help clean, or feed them, unless I'm in a tight pinch. And he's okay with holding them. He has been very supportive though and doesn't limit me (though I limit myself).
I'm well off to have someone who supports me, at least. : ) He's not even opposed to my starting a cricket colony when we get our own place.
