The water debate

Hi everyone-
So a while back, I had a debate with someone over water quality for feeding. He recommended that I use RO water from an aquarium store, distilled water, or fill up water bottles and leave them out for a few days to "dechlorinate". So I started with RO water, but it became a pain to lug 5 gallon jugs to and from the store. I now do the water bottle technique, but not sure if that actually does anything beneficial. Does anyone know if and what the health risks are of common tap water being used to feed and bathe our animals? I let my sav romp around in a tub of warm water almost daily, so there is no avoiding issues with water quality there.

I've always used tap water for all my sentient beings (beardies, water dragon, leos, BTS) and never had a problem.

I usually fill a gallon jug and leave the lid off over night to let some of the chlorine evaporate. Either way I do not think tap water is a problem. you do not have to go buy bottled water...

thanks all!. Yeah I leave the lid off of filled water bottles. Maybe they like room temp water better than cold, out of the tap....who knows what they are thinking.

I've always used tap water for all of my pets except my daughter's sea monkeys (in which case I used bottled water- it's just for ease). If you let tapwater sit for at least 24 hours at room temp, the chlorine will evaporate. I figure if my fish can live in it, then it's safe enough for everything else.

I use Reptisafe since we have alot of chlorine in our water, it also instantly gets rid of other chemicals in the water. Just 1 drop to their water bowl as i refill it :)

I use bottled water for all of my reptiles as every three months I get a notice in the mail dealing with increased arsenic levels in our towns well water

I hate to even take a shower in the tap water-lol

If I still lived in the the Chicago suburbs and had Lake Michigan water-I would use it-just let the chlorine evaporate first

At our old house, I used filtered water for the leos, as I would not drink the unfiltered tapwater myself. Now, at our new house, our tap water is not chlorinated, and I will drink it, so I have been using it for the leos with no problems at all.

Basically, I figure if I won't drink it, I'm not going to give it to my pets. lol If it's ok for me, it's ok for them. ;)

We have a filter on the tap and I fill a gallon jug and keep in fridge because i only drink water or fresh fruit juiced. I do give them a little cold water from fridge mixed with room temp. water?? Is that bad or not? I know i hate warm water but with them being cold blooded does anyone know if that's bad? I guess by the time they actually drink it at dark its probably warm anyways.

Tap water is fine. If you can drink it, they can drink it.
I have my own R/O unit, and I still use tap water.

A lot of municipalities have switched over to chloramine, which won't gas out as quickly as chlorine. Just a heads up.
