Before you scroll down, please read the thread Marcia started here:

http://www.geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=9383

I don't know why I'm posting pictures of some of these poor animals. Like Marcia said, I'm just not thinking rationally. Maybe I'm trying to fully acknowledge it to try to make it easier to accept or something. I don't know.

Just so you know, some of these geckos look HORRIBLE.

If I had eaten lately, I'd probably be throwing up.

These are only a few of the babies that were affected by the temperature spike.

This is the only one whose pattern / color seems to have been affected:

Poor Snow Bell...

This one's back is all fucked up

I was trying to remove this one's stuck shed (a lot of them have been having shedding problems the last few days) and his leg broke when I set him down to get my hemostat.

I didn't make him wait in the fridge or the freezer.

After the last one, I decided to take this one's picture before trying to remove the shed. While doing so, he lost bowel control in my hands and thew up blood. I didn't make him wait either.

This one was a BEAUTIFUL male Enigma het for Bell. Now he can't even crawl over the edge of a petri dish.

Yeah.

Welcome to my Hell. I swear this is like a fucking nightmare that I can't wake up from.

I feel like such an idiot. I feel like one of those people on Craigslist or Reptibid who shouldn't even be allowed to have houseplants much less an animal. The thermostat must have clusterfucked the last time I was in Texas. I can't believe I was thinking MBD must've developed to such an extent just from a week without calcium supplementation. I feel so irresponsible for not checking the rack temperatures more often. My mom was really kicking herself because she thought it was her fault even though I told her I refused to believe that a week without supplements could've caused it. At least now I know what happened, and at least now she knows she wasn't responsible in any way.

I am a little curious as to why the high temperatures were causing such problems with shedding though. I've never cooked a reptile before so I didn't know how the problem would manifest itself. Like I've told a few of you so far, I would have expected them to look really dehydrated and pale if they were too hot.

My other brother showed up last night too and the three of them helped me get all caught up on chores. I'm taking the day off.

And dammit if I haven't heard back from the Bean Farm yet on those Herpstats. At least it wasn't a heat tape problem. I'd rather rack up credit card debt ordering new thermostats than have to re-lace 500-600 feet of heat tape through all the racks.

Paul, I am at a loss for words. They look exactly like my poor little babies. I now have 9 dead and about 12 more that look like this.

Marcia I am so sorry. I'm really tempted to hop on a flight just to come give you a hug.

because of the severe heat. it bakes them. if it can "fry" the brain just imagine what it can do to its skin and internal organs paul. it happens similar in snakes (the shedding problem thing). sometimes after a high heat spike they go into shed very quickly after.

I think I've worn out the battery in my tempgun over the last 12 hours. I've just been keeping it in my pocket and I'm afraid to leave the house.

Bean Farm is overnighting the four Herpstat NDs that they have in stock and having Spyder Robotics send the other six via Priority Mail.

I just checked ANOTHER Ranco and there is a 9-10* discrepancy between the probe and the unit. I can't believe I've been using these things for years and have been recommending them to people.

I think the Ranco that killed / crippled those babies is going to suffer the same fate as the printer from the movie Office Space once I can find my baseball bat.

That's an excellent idea. Maybe it'll get a little of the anxiety and frustration out of your system too.

Of the 19 remaining babies who I marked as showing symptoms, it looks like a few of them have indeed eaten because there is healthy-looking poop in their tubs. I'm not overly optimistic about their prognosis, but I guess we'll just see what happens.

I did talk to Dennis Thomas about the Ranco units that failed and he posted a thread on Fauna inquiring if anyone else has had problems with them.

I think that is a GREAT idea! I've wanted to do that to a few people lately (oops, did I say people, ummm, ok, yes, I mean a few people)

Well I FINALLY managed to get the shed off of the Enigma. I have been very apprehensive about even touching these geckos after that Rainwater's leg broke. The Enigma was actually in a better mood today after spending the night in the incubator on wet paper towel. I had to pull each "glove" off with a hemostat as well as two patches on his head and one on his throat. Fortunately he managed to get the shed off his vent by himself overnight (I always hate trying to remove that part).
