CUT my hair DRASTICALLY *Updated with PIC*

Ok so Iknow this is an odd post but I don't keep many friends in real life so I'll put this here (hope y'all don't mind :) )

So I turned 40 (UGH :( ) in march. I have had long hair since my semior year in high school but I think I want a change. New decade, new me. So I was thinking of a drastic change from what I have had for nearly 22 years.

Currently I look like this:

and was thinking of going with something like this:

Thoughts?? Suggestions? I'm a wash and wear kinda gal so nothing too "high maintenance".

Thanks

Do it! I had a drastic hair cut at the beginning of the summer. I went from hair down to the middle of my back, to a short bob. The hair near the base of my neck is now short enough to spike up with gel and I love it!

(This is coming from a girl with hair down to her butt who's husband won't let her cut it and might be a little jealous.)

Go for it if you want a change! Your bone structure is really similar to that picture of Winona Ryder so I'm sure it would look good on you. Even if you don't like it it'll always grow back. lol
I would just ask them to cut it a little longer and then keep cutting it shorter if you want. You can always cut more off but you can't put it back on!

True, but I think if I do it it's gonna be all or not... the half way thing meh... just not my style :) problem is I'm a HUGE chicken $hit :main_yes: esp when it comes to my hair since it only growns a half inch a month.

Leaning yes tho

I would say if you are going to do it go to a good hair stylist. Some of these will chop your head up, a good stylist will also show you how to style it everyday to make it perfect. All in all I would say GO FOR IT!

I would definitely go for it. I love changing my hair and do it pretty often. I got a shorter cut earlier this year and really like it (needs a trim though). I like to change the color, too.

I had hair down to my waist till I got lice (still don't know how) when my oldest daughter was 3 months old, 23 years ago! As a result I got a fairly drastic haircut and cried all the way through it. I never looked back. It's great! There's something about making a big change when the number of years gets big enough (I'll be 55 next month and still going strong), so I'd vote for doing it.

Ok... I think I'm pretty convinced to do it... now I just gotta wrap my head around it, and my older son's. He is like NOOOOO don't cut off your hair, but I think once he sees it he won't be so against the idea. He's like me... averse to change.

Mine is down to my waist and very thick. In the way, hot, heavy. So my bf seems to think its funny to tease me about selling it for wigs. Yah that's an eye-roller. I went short for about 20 years and decided to grow it back out. I think when women hit that point of dread, you know what I'm talking about, it's natural to think about making some changes. Bottom line is happiness.. what makes you happy with yourself. Besides it will grow back :)

If you cut down on the trimming you'll notice more of a difference. My best friend is a hair stylist who specializes in hair growth problems and she has no problem with cutting my hair every 4-5 months as long as the ends are still in good shape. I don't think trimming it more often will help it grow faster but your hair will break if you have split ends. So I think that's where the story about trimming = growing faster probably originated. Use a good shampoo and conditioner and skip washing every other day then you won't need to trim it so often and you'll get to long hair way faster.

Thank you for the compliment. I have appreciated it for 20 years... I think I'm ready to appreciate a more maintenance free cut for a while.

Do it!!!

It will definitely give you a new look. You'll probably love the shorter hair.

Just be sure to post pictures when you get it cut.

I have my appointment on the 27th Keith... the butterflies get bigger and bigger the closer we get :) I will try to post pix Whitney unless I'm utterly disgusted with it, then I'll just go into hiding until it grows out ;) .

Well, good luck!

I dunno if a man's input carries the same weight as a womans, but I went from a little past shoulder-length to shaved head about 6 years ago, and haven't looked back.

I know it's a different situation, but going shorter was wonderful.

Of course a man's opinion matters... hubby's just gonna agree with what ever I want to do and not give me his honest opinion so a man's point of view is equally important to me. All I want to make sure of is that I have teh same "wash and go" type of maintenance I have now... I just put mousse in my hair and let it air dry and there's no styling involved. I Hate styling and all the primping crap... I'm def. NOT a girley girl so curling iron... what's that?? :)

Thanks y'all for the imput... we'll see what happens on the 27th :)

Yep 10 am tomorrow... kinda nervous... gonna take all the pix I collected and run them past the hair gal to get her opinion before deciding. So either way it'll likely be a lot less hair than I have now. Either some really bold chunky layers or short like I posted...
