Im looking into getting a really NICE camera to do great macro shots.... and THIS is what I want to accomplish...skin close ups, extreme eye close ups, and really nice profile shots.
I was actually looking into the Nikon D90, or Nikon D5000. Would I need an additional macro lens to take shots like this?

Im still open to other camera ideas/ opinions.

(If Robin happens to see this...what kind of camera are you using? and any additional accessories?)

the nikons will definitely do the job, make sure you get a good macro lens. i was using a canon rebel 350D and an 18-55 lens. for a true macros you might look for a true macro lens. my camera has since died and i am using a point and shoot now :(

Thanks Robin! Do I need an additional flash too, were you using a photo/ light box?

nope no light box even though it wouldnt hurt. i just used the cameras auto flash :)

a light box and external flash would make for better photos over all

I'm glad it enables you to see, cause I don't see jack diddley. I think I'm gonna have to kill comcast... That's really great that your camera can help you see better.

I use my wife's D80 or her D300, mostly the D80 cause I'm scared to break other one. But she doesn't have an auto focusing macro lens. It takes me forever to get it right, not an easy thing with leos, since they move constantly. But the leachies and Uros are wonderful models for me to practice on.

HAHA, you so funny!:p

I guess it was comcast. I had friends who had funky internet last night too. It's amazing how much my life depends on internet...

now back on topic... really cool pic, Robin.

That is a pretty hot photo for sure... very nice Robin...

I recently started playing around with my D200 and extension tubes. I have a 50mm fixed focal with a manual aperture ring, which helps me adjust the DOF, but losing manual focus sucks a little... not that I have much to work with when using all the rings, but it will get close enough to watch a lady bug munch down an aphid.
