Thoughts on Black Eyed Enigmas??

I've seen several posts of Mack Enigmas (het Tremper...het Bell...etc.) with solid black eyes. Two days ago we hatched our first Mack Enigma het Bell...also with two solid black eyes. I don't think I've seen this happen in the Mack Albino Engimas yet...only the non-albino Mack Enigmas. Also, I'm not talking about animals with the "eclipse" gene in them...that's understandable, of course. But, it seems odd that we're seeing a lot of solid eyed Mack Enigmas popping up. I'd like to hear others experiences...and thoughts on why this may be happening...

This just may be another circumstance of why the Enigmas are an enigma...:main_rolleyes:

Congrats on your hatchling, Paul. They are very neat animals, for sure. After doing lots of research into this, I've come to this conclusion: :main_huh:

I've hatched four of them so far. All four of them came from the same pairing: enigma het bell male x super snow het bell female. So mine are all possibly het bell as well. Every enigma this female has produced all have solid black eyes.

And my answer is the same as Jasons...........:main_huh: I no longer have a theory. :main_laugh:

I have done quite extensive research on this as well...I would like to share my hypothesis with you....

I have found that these animals DO infact have two eyes....located almost symetrically on either side of the frontal region of their heads....and thusly...we have the potential of having them with solid black eyes as well as many other potential color schemes. Of this I can assure!

This is just the beginning of my valuable clinical research into this....

Guess we have to throw out the old book huh? Arent these freakin enigmas fun??!! :)

I was thinking they may help end global warming and dependance on fossil fuel, but that remains to be seen thus far.

Lol! You guys are funny! I have a thought.

When combinding mack snow and Mack snow we get a super snow. The super snow is the result of the two co dominant traits combinding.

Maybe we don't get the black eyes as just the result of the combination of co dom Mack snow to co dom Mack snow. Maybe the black eyes are the result of cominding two co dom color morphs. So Mack snow to enigma. Both of which are co dominant traits. Maybe the two co dom traits cause the same reaction in the genes that we get when crossing Mack to Mack.

Just a thought.

Mike, you make my brain feel funny.

For those of you who don't know, Mike was actually the valedictorian of his graduating class. Here is a picture of him delivering his speech at the graduation ceremony:

Oh sure...take a serious topic and just make fun it why don't you...:main_laugh: lol
J/K of course...you guys are actually pretty funny! Especially the line about the car insurance! You gotta love a good laugh...

Now back to the "theorizing"...

That would kind of explain the deal with "Gem" x Mack Snows producing Supers...maybe. I'm kind of out of my realm here. I just like putting pretty geckos together to make more :main_lipsrsealed:
But, it seems like if this were the case then it would happen in all mack enigmas...and so far, it's been very random. I think I've seen mine, Debbie's, and Jason's...and those have all been het for Bell or Tremper. Who am I forgetting?

Maybe not. If it were to react like the super forms of co-dom traits then it would happen 25% of the time. Right? Like Snow x Snow = 25% Super Snows.

I don't know if I believe this is happening but an interesting theory none the less.

You are right, sir! Perhaps we're making some progress...:main_thumbsup:

Thanks

the Enigma gene would need to actually be a codom trait for that theory to stand true. The general consensus for the last year has been incomplete dominant or dominant.

Opps...I missed that in Mallorie's post. I was reading too fast and thought she was recommending that perhaps a the Mack SS eye trait could be expressed when crossed with another dom. trait...or said another way, the eye trait "un locks" when crossed with any other type of dominant trait...whether it be incomplete dom., co-dom, or dom. (hence the gem snow comment)
Again, I'm just shooting in the dark here...you genetic experts jump in, please...
