don't overload your circuits. each breaker should not be loaded with more than about 1250 Watts for long-term, continuous use.
Watts/Volts = Amps rearranged, that becomes Amps*Volts=Watts
most circuit breakers are rated at 15 Amps and the usual voltage in the US is 115V
15*115= 1725 Watts maximum rating
all the outlets in a room may be on a single breaker along with the lights too, so a large herp room may be seriously overloading the circuit.
look at all your devices on each circuit and add up all the wattages, or convert the amp rating to watts... and make sure it's within the safety zone. You might want to add more circuit breakers so that each outlet is on a separate circuit.
be safe, people!
also... don't run extension cords underneath carpeting or area rugs, plug things directly into outlets rather than using extension cords.
feel the cords.. they should not be hot to the touch.
if you smell ozone search out the source immediately!
WOW! What a wonderful outpouring of support from the gecko community here on GeckoForums.net! Tony called me first thing this morning after reading this post, and he is overwhelmed by the blessings and support from everyone. He and I both have been contacted directly from breeders around the country who are willing to help him get started again by sending geckos. If anyone else would like to help, or just give him encouragement, you can contact me and I have permission from Tony to give out his phone number.
This is one of the reasons I feel so privileged to be a part of the gecko community for so many years. It's tragedies like this that bring people out of the woodwork to reach out their hands when another needs lifted up. I know that Tony's animals were is whole life, and gave him a reason to wake up every morning. Tony and I both have a debilitating auto-immune disease, and we would be much sicker if we didn't have these beautiful, gentle creatures to love and care for. I cannot imagine my life without them, and what Tony is going through right now. Our geckos are better than any drug that medical science can prescribe.
Tony is right. Each new day is a Blessing, I know the love and compassion from all of you will help him recover from this tragic loss! Thank you all...
