What fruits or veggies do you feed your Mealies?

I was thinking of gut-loading my mealies with broccoli or maybe even strawberries to boost some vitamin A levels since they never eat the potato skin. I was just thinking this could be good to avoid eyelid deformities, just overall healthier.. especially if its breeding season,
I dont know if berries are a good choice, I can't see broccoli hurting...

What have you used besides potatos, carrots or apples??

2 votes for broccoli!! I was thinking its a lot less wet then berries as far as molding in the bins and I also worried about the sugar in strawberries too since mealies are a bit high in fat already.. to crix not to waxies tho. Anyone else?

I use veggie scraps, but only the ones that aren't too fleshy so they won't get moldy. I don't use whole strawberries, just the tops. One of their favorite foods seems to be the core of a bell pepper (without the seeds). Tonight I went to get some mealworms for a friend and there were so many worms around the pepper core, I could get the whole 100 just from there. Other things I have used include: cabbage leaves, celery, kale, eggplant peels (they love this), unwaxed cucumber peels, carrot, apple cores, mango skins.

I have taken My ultimate Fruit and Vegi Powders and came up with a revolutionary new Water Gel Product.

New Ultimate Fruit Protein Water Gel, which has the following fruits:

APPLE
ORANGE
PINEAPPLE
WATERMELON
GRAPEFRUIT,
STRAWBERRY
PEACH
PAPAYA
PEAR
LIME
LEMON
CHERRY
PLUM
BLUEBERRY
GRAPE
CANTALOUPE
RASPBERRY

As for Vegies, I also have mad e the Ultimate Vegi Protein Water Gel, which will have the following Vegies:
BROCCOLI
CAULIFLOWER
KALE
BRUSSEL SPROUTS
SPINACH
RADISH
CARROTS
BEETS
TOMATO
CELERY
ONION
LEEK OR YELLOW PEPPER
Spriulina
Chlorella

Here is another option and will explain the base for the Fruit and Vegie Protein Gels.

The Ultimate Protein Water Gel!!! Is 100% Vegetarian and Natural.

Is derived from Gracilaria (Gelidium species) a bright red sea vegetable with the botanical name of Gleidium purpurascens.

It is a polysaccharide found in the cell walls of some red algae and is unusual in containing sulfated galactose monomers (gelling agents). It requires nothing but extraction from red algae and purification to become the gel.

It is unflavored producing a firm, clear jelly and is rich in iodine and trace minerals and has mildly laxative properties.

The flakes are produced by a traditional method of cooking and pressing the sea vegetables and then naturally freeze-drying the residue to form bars which are then powdered or flaked for easier packageing and transport.

It is also advisable to store the Ultimate Protein Water Gel in the fridge as it is a high protein food by itself.

My Opinions from testing meal worm
foods and the Gecko reaction to them were as such.
(not every food was tested) Moisture items kept on top of grains.

#1 Pineapple (skin from fresh) .....but creates pesty fruit flies (nats)
#2 Orange Peel (my # 1 choice, meal worm, and gecko)
#3 Carrot very close to #2
#4 Sweet corn (ears and husk) Great test results but used late near season end...very good results and great for harvesting meal worms...they crawl into the husks to eat.
?? maybe a new product called ?? HUSK OF WORMS ??
#5 Potato ... Apple
#6 Broccoli
Others tried/many not ...but not suggested... Berries, Pepperoni,
Raisins, coffee along with a few others. Coffee kills most worms tried
being meal and wax..

Your opinionated tester taster's choice for gut/feed to prey.....
May I have the envelope, please? and this years winner is.
Page 207 of the Gecko prey food 101 handbook.

LAYER HEN CRUMBLES, fortified with goodies galore. (feed/grain store)
Orange Skins
Carrot Lengths
Sweet corn/husks in season.

Take care. HJ

I mostly use carrots since I haven't had any issues with flies or mold from them.
